Somyot assigns Prawut to Chuwong case; Kantana moves house

BANGKOK: -- INFLUENTIAL figures have been trying to interfere with ongoing investigations into the death of construction tycoon Chuwong Saetang and the transfer of nearly Bt300 million worth of his shares to two women, National Police chief |Pol General Somyot Poompan-muang said yesterday.

The share transfers took place just days before Chuwong died in a 'suspicious' car accident on June 26.

"I've heard that some figures are trying to use their money and influence to interfere in police work," Somyot said yesterday, "So, I am going to ensure justice by having a high-ranking police officer at the National Police Office (NPO) directly oversee these cases."

Assistant national police chief Pol Lt-General Prawut Thavorn-siri, who is also the police spokesman, has now been entrusted with the mission of supervising the probe into Chuwong's death and transfer of shares to Kantana Siwathanapon and Uracha Wachirakun-thon.

The two women received the shares just days before the billionaire passed away on the night of June 26 in what Pol Lt-Colonel Banyin Tangpakorn, a former deputy commerce minister and MP, said was a fatal car accident.

Banyin was giving Chuwong a ride home that night, when their vehicle crashed into a roadside tree, according to the politician.

Chuwong's family has suspected foul play because Banyin had

sustained no injuries and the shifting of Chuwong's shares worth millions suspiciously to others just days before.

"The cases involving the death and share transfers will be transferred to the Crime Suppression Division. But they will all be under the supervision of the NPO," Somyot said.

Prawut yesterday listened to Kantana's testimonies himself. The woman, who says she is pregnant with Chuwong's child, told police yesterday that some 'robust' men had been monitoring her at her home, which caused her to seek refuge at a relative's house.

Kantana did not speak to reporters. Her lawyer, Seksan Senachu, however, told media that his phone records were checked after their names appeared in relation to Chuwong's cases. Asked about reports that Kantana had been dating another man, Seksan said "They broke up before she met Chuwong".

Uracha, another recipient of Chuwong's shares, is scheduled to testify to police for the second time today.

In a related development, Chuwong's family yesterday called on the Central Institute of Forensic Science (CIFS) to help determine the exact cause of Chuwong's death.

CIFS director-general Dr Porntip Rojanasunan said her agency could officially take action on the case only if the Justice Ministry or the Department of Special Investigation gave a nod to the relatives' request.

"But at this point, I can provide advice," she said.

More deflection. Banyin is the key to evetything here. It's probably not too outlandish to suggest that he knows quite a few influential people who he can call on to put some pressure on and shake things up.

He should be locked up because originally he wss charged with causing death by reckless driving. Seems odd that such a charge is now irrelevant (seemingly)

Standard custom and practice for the rich, powerful, and elites, Don't you know who I am? My father is?, If you don't stop looking and asking you will have trouble, How much for you to find nothing?

It's no great surprise that the grass roots of the country are sick to death with the arrogance of these I'm above the law people.

ID them and charge them with obstruction...

Seems like the "influential people" are winning,as the case goes on,

the police seem more concerned in following the money, instead of

investigating the fact that a murder could have been committed.

Well this just fills me with confidence that a fair, just and efficient investigation will now take place.

How much of the loot are the players going to be holding after the BIB conclude their "investigation"

If some people are using their influence to interfere in this sordid case, then arrest and charge them.

Hardly rocket science, is it?

Yes of course, because those particular people have the word interferer tattooed on their forehead.NOT

G'day Waza, long time no see, but no real surprise there as the current powers that be have done quite a job at the economy and the image of the country on the international stage huh, kind'a hard to spin all the c---up's ay mate...

Not sure how you come up with your comment, but ok. It's common knowledge the Shinz are rich, powerful and in the elite class, and I never claimed they were not, so now whatblink.png

But those from BKK see themselves in a much deluded different light, just as most middle and lower class people see themselves as being superior to the rest of the country...

As far as PTP politician's go, well I'd suggest they are pretty much like all MP's are in it for what they can get, power, prestige, etc.

My opinions on some issues have and still are that often politically motivated and bias outcomes have often plagued Thailand and I call it as I see it.

As far as who they (figures seeking to derail probe) are politically affiliated with has nothing to do with this alleged obstruction of justice, red, yellow pink, or purple, ID them, prove the obstruction and make them very publicly accountable.

Try reading my post, I am praising the man for his insight. PS thanks for your civil reply. Abuse and profanity is the refuge of the weak minded

I get it, you want everybody to love you and not scold you, now that is the epitome of wimp. Lacking in the manhood are we? Sarcasm as praise, my haven't we got a problem.
