Australian model questioned after being accused of being Bangkok bomber
Daisy Dumas

SYDNEY: -- A Sydney actor, model, tutor and fashion blogger says he is "in shock and really saddened" and feared he may become the "terrorist version of Schapelle Corby" after rumours that he was the Bangkok bombing suspect seen in CCTV footage before the deadly attack began circulating online.

Sunny Burns, who lives in Bangkok where he acts, models and teaches English, handed himself in to police after Monday evening's bomb blast at Erawan Shrine, which took the lives of 22 people and injured 123 more.

He told Sunrise on Wednesday morning that he was forced to go to the police, who questioned him for six hours, after his immigration papers and local address were posted on social media.

"People were accusing me of being a terrorist...I had no other choice but to go to the police..." he said.

Bangkok bombing: Australian actor Sunny Burns mistaken for Thailand CCTV suspect on social media

(ABC NEWS) An Australian actor says he was mistaken as the suspect behind the bombing of a Hindu shrine in Bangkok, after social media users began pointing out similarities between him and a suspect seen in CCTV footage.

Sunny Burns, who lives in the Thai capital, said he was made aware of the rumours by friends after Thai authorities on Monday released CCTV footage showing a man strolling into a packed religious shrine and placing a bomb-laden backpack underneath a bench before walking away.

Burns, from Byron Bay, said he presented himself to police after an image comparing himself to the suspect in the footage began circulating online.

The 26-year-old posted a selfie to his Instagram account from his meeting with police, saying: "Talking with the police. I forgive everyone who spread those horrible rumours about me.

"I love this country and let's fight together. Let's find this bomber. I'm not a terrorist but I'm a ting tong actor."

Trying for his 2 minutes of attention. Model, indeed. Must be quite the lucrative job, as he is working as an unlicensed english "tutor" in the interim.

Hope he doesn't teach them to speak with that awful squeaky Aussie accent too, whistling.gif

I hope all his immigration papers are in order. Acting, modelling, English Tutor - must have an interesting work permit too.

Nothing enrages the old gits more than being a young farang in Thailand. This should be a long thread.

no ingrown toenails, not having to pay for sex, not carrying a ton of body fat, no need for viagra for 2 minutes of 'intimacy', not having paid for sick buffalo... please feel a little sorry for the old gits tongue.png and keep in mind one day we will all be old facepalm.gif

Interesting. One of my friends, an American who has done some but part acting and modelling was also forced to go to the police yesterday evening after his details were passed on.

Yes they are rounding up thin people with dark hair. whistling.gif

"The national police chief, Somyot Poompanmoung, said the suspect, who was thin with dark black hair and wearing wristbands on both arms, could be Thai or a foreigner." http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/aug/19/bangkok-bomb-thai-police-hunt-accomplices-backpack-suspect

fashion-blogger-accused-of-being-the-ban

BANGKOK: -- Australian Sunny Burns, 22, who lives in Bangkok, was horrified when he saw news coverage of the Bangkok bomb fashion blogger accused of being the bangok bomberthat took the lives of 22 people and injured 123 more.

Later he was even more horrified when he discovered he was being accused of being the bomber on social media sites that also published his immigration papers and his address. Feeling as if he had no option Sunny went to the police who questioned him for six hours before searching his flat for bombs and bomb making equipment.

When it came to his reaction to this case of mistaken identity he posed “Talking with the police. I forgive everyone who spread those horrible rumours about me. I love this country and let’s fight together. Let’s find this bomber. I’m not a terrorist but I’m a ting tong actor”. Once cleared CCTV images of him on his way to teach English after visiting the muscle lab gym were posted on the social media sites where accusations had been made that the photographs of the bombing suspect in the yellow shirt were him. “I would never wear those clothing – I’m a fashion blogger” he said.

Police are still hunting for the man in the yellow shirt who was seen entering the vicinity of the Erawan Shrine wearing a backpack that he put under a bench before leaving the area shortly before the bomb went off. The yellow shirted suspect was caught on CCTV at 6.53pm. He sat on a bench before putting the backpack underneath it, then stood up to take some photograph, he was then caught again on CCTV walking onto the Ratchadamri Road at 6.57pm, the bomb went off one minute later.

Someone posted his details on Social Media without a second thought to the validity of what they posted.

In a period of high-intentions the outcome of such a rash and foolish act could've been quite different.

The young blogger was brave and switched on to hand himself in to the Police who it appears handled the situation correctly.

No doubt Sunny Burns breathes a sigh of relief this morning.

Amazing how many bitter people have already posted not on the actual topic but instead choose some snide remark against a young innocent man....

What bitter, twisted and jealous characters Thai Visa sometimes attracts....

Lighten up mate he's an Aussie it's part of our heritage to rip on each other. He's a big boy I'm sure he'll be sweet. Water off a duck's back an all that. I doubt young Sunny gives a tinkers about the opinions of anyone posting on Thai Visa somehow. Good on you for going into bat for the young bloke however...I'm sure he'll be grateful for your support

or... we're not jealous (of what, btw), just not naive.

selfies posted online at a questioning related to a horrific crime. perhaps you are the type who would also take/post a selfie in such a circumstance. i, for one, am not; and find it highly inappropriate/self absorbed/pathetic. add in his aggressive desire to talk to media outlets and, ummm, do i really need to spell this out for you?

You let your foot off the clutch a little early there....

Your points referring to self promotion are fairly valid and contained no bitterness... Your spelling was fine clap2.gif
