BANGKOK: -- A one-million baht reward has been offered by the national police chief for any individuals who can provide information to the police which will lead to the arrest of the Ratchaprasong bomber.

Pol Lt-Gen Prawuth Thavornsiri, spokesman of the Royal National Police Office, tweeted that the bounty was offered by Pol Gen Somyot Poompunmuang.

Police have launched a manhunt for a foreign-looking man suspected to be the bomber after he was seen in video footages of leaving his backpack at the Erawan Shrine on Monday night and then left the scene before the explosion.

Meanwhile, Colonel Winthai Suvaree, spokesman of the National Council for Peace and Order, announced in a nationwide TV broadcast Wednesday morning, quoting police report, that investigation into the bombing case was progressing satisfactorily.

Overall, he said that the situation has returned to normal and people can pursue their normal lives as usual. Officials of the Justice, Tourism and Sports and Social Development and Human Security ministries have been attending to the injured and providing compensation to the victims or their families, he added.

As for public safety, Colonel Winthai said security had been stepped up with checkpoints set up at various spots in Bangkok and security forces on patrol to provide security to tourists, especially Chinese.

Getting to the bottom of this is worth a lot more than a million baht.

It's almost a silly low amount considering the gravity of this situation.

Also people giving info might be risking their lives.

I do think offering rewards is the way to go though. Just MORE.

Story says the offer is from the man himself. I think he can spare a bit more. Let's say 35 million baht. He wouldn't miss it.

On the other hand, in principle, the last thing Thailand needs is maverick senior police / maverick any police.

But of course the focus right now should be on finding the perpetrator.

It should be five million Dead or Alive....That way theres a good chance he shows up with his throat already slit.

Well, that's just brilliant. The RTP would end up with a dozen dead bodies on their doorstep and people with their hand out looking for the reward. And ZERO guarantee than any of the victims was the perp.

Dumb idea. That means no trial, and easy to stitch someone up for the sake of police pride in "getting him".

Some hapless Burmese who is about the same height and weight would earn someone a million baht.

In fact, several may end up on offer from various sources.

People would be dressing up farangs in silly wigs and yellow t-shirts and slitting their throats if it was worth 5 million a pop lol...

Any farang who happens to look like that guy better get a hair cut...There could be dozens on Kao San road that look just like him...

That's started already.

An Australian actor living in Thailand turned himself into police after rumours started circulating on the internet that he was the Bangkok bomber.

on the CCTV he looks not comfortable with the glasses,

so some op might be right -

he used a wigg and glasses to hide real appearance,

and sure the bart is also gone !!

In western countries they would scetch 2 - 3 different pics,

how he would look real like without wigg and glasses and bart;

How many yellow Tshirts are in thailand currently?

I have also at least 3 in my cache!

the yellow Tshirt looks also a little bit oversiced ??

so maybee he had already a replacement in the plastic bag,

so when he went in soi 9,

wigg off, glasses off, Tshirt off,

a new blue colour in the plastic bag;

So when this intelligent RTP will start to check soi 9 for something left ?

after the rainy season might be convinient ??
