Rainsy Slams Nauru Refugee Deal in Australia

PHNOM PENH (Khmer Times) – Sam Rainsy, leader of the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), yesterday slammed the deal the government made with Australia to take in asylum seekers detained on the Pacific island of Nauru to Cambodia.

“We don’t support that move [and] that decision we regret. We would prefer that Australia solves this issue without using Cambodia as a dumping site for refugees,” he told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Mr. Rainsy made the comments in Australia where he is seeking funding from the Cambodian community there to start a CNRP TV station.
