I post this question as I have seen many contradicting discussions on the topic online recently.

In the last 3 years I have had a double entry tourist visa, a triple entry tourist visa and an education visa.

In between these visas I have visited other countries and have most recently been in the UK for 5 months and have just be granted another triple entry tourist visa I plan to use in October.

My question is as I have have had previous visas and was in Thailand in April of this year will I have a problem at immigration when I return to bkk airport in October

Thanks

You will have no problem entering the country.

You got your visa to early though. The visas 6 month validity stars from the date the visa is issued. You will have to use all the entries on or before the enter before date on your visa.

...have just be granted another triple entry tourist visa I plan to use in October.

If it was issued, for example, on 15 August, that would mean you'd have to make your 3rd entry by around 15 February. If you arrive in Thailand (again, just as an example) on 15 October, you'd only have about 4 months before the visa expires. If your intention is to stay here as long as possible, you've sort of screwed yourself. Theoretically a 3 entry tourist visa can net you close to 270 day or almost 9 months as long as you make the last border crossing just before the visa expires.

In my example above, you would need to make your last entry before 15 February, which would net you a permission to stay and extension of stay up to around 15 May, or about 7 months from your arrival in October.

Of course if you got the 3 entry visa because you want to travel in and out of Thailand over just a few months ... no problem.

Peter on a side note. Sounds like you like travel. If you need a further TV after current one expires you can just go to place like Vientiane and obtain another one. Being from UK a good idea is catch cheap flight to HCMC. The Thai consulate is pretty chilled place. The UK reference is to fact you don't require visa. Think UK is now visa exempt list for maybe 15 days. Check it out. I'm OZ the online letter and visa fee adds up to about $65usd.

whistling.gif Do you realize that a triple entry visa is issued usually in many European countries for a period of 180 days from the time it is ISSUED by the consulate and it then starts a countdown from that issue date.

It/s expiration is NOT based on the entry date when you enter Thailand, it counts down from the issue date you obtained the visa from the consulate or embassy.

You MUST therefore use ALL 3 entries on a triple entry tourist visa before that "must enter before" date which is stamped on your triple entry visa.

If you have not used ALL 3 entries on that triple entry visa before that date, and used entries will be voided one day after that date.

In other words if you obtain a double or triple entry tourist visa in April it expires 180 days later in October .....even if you have one unused entry left on the visa.

You need to be very careful on using your 3rd entry in October before your visa expires on that "must enter before date"

Think of that date as a must USE before date.
