BANGKOK: -- The National Council for Peace and Order is mulling legal actions against netizens who post false messages in the social media in a way which will create public confusion or panic, said Colonel Winthai Suvaree, spokesman of the NCPO, on Friday.

The colonel also asked members of the public who came across any suspicious objects or anything which may pose public dangers to report immediately to the police or military officers at the nearest police stations or military checkpoints.

Speaking at a nationwide TV broadcast Friday, the NCPO spokesman said that several security agencies concurred that the bomb attack at Ratchaprasong on August 17 and the second bombing incident at Sathorn pier the following day were intended to ruin Thailand’s economy and tourism business and the image of the country.

He said that investigation in the bombing incidents had made progress but details about the probe could not be disclosed to the public yet.

As for the bomb victims, he said only 63 are still being hospitalized at different hospitals in Bangkok.

when will the dinosaurs realize what social media is all about.

It's social.

It's today's version of friends hanging out and swapping stories and rumors : about personal, local, national, or global topics.

They might as well dispatch the thought-police to every tiny village in Thailand.

Trouble is as one BBC reporter said today that there are so many diifferent statements coming from the Thai authorities it is difficult to know who or what to believe or whether the authorities are making any progress in solving it at all. First one single bomber, then many, a foreigner, then Thai, unlikely outside influences, etc etc.

In any event how can the Thais even consider prosecuting international agencies such as BBC, AFP, Reuters etc; all they can do is persecute Thailand based minnows such as the proprietors of The Phuketwan.

False messages, sure punish. But mixed, contradictory, confused, slow, wrong messages, no worries...that's the officials' domain.

Just a warning telling us "How dare you make us lose face in the world..."

Haha, Thailand lost face ever since the birth of modern media including social media.... How can such a stubborn old-fashioned elite still be so worried about saving face, when the rest of the world knows everything about Thai-Chinese-brainwashing-pride????

PM asks public to refrain circulating messages with political objectives

BANGKOK, 20 August 2015 (NNT) – The Prime Minister has expressed his thanks to the Thai public's encouraging messages, while asking people to refrain from sending messages with political motives during this time, a Government spokesman says.

The Deputy Government Spokesman Col Sansern Kaewkamnerd revealed that the Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has expressed his gratitude for the Thai public who have sent messages of encouragement to each other, as well as giving the moral support to officials during this time.

The Prime Minister has said that all messages will be the power that will help the nation pass through this difficult time together.

The Deputy Government Spokesman also addressed the politically motivated messages circulated by some groups to sabotage the work of the officials, doubting officials' investigations, or an exaggeration of the situation, saying that now is not the time for those discouraging words. He said the nation currently needs courage and sincerity.

He said that the public should comprehend and share information with full discretion, so that they will not become tools of those who wish to destroy courage in society or to distort reality.

The Deputy Government Spokesman has added that information deemed not beneficial for national affairs should not be circulated.

If they start persecuting social media then all hell will break loose. Places like China and Vietnam stiffed it early, Thailand has had access to it for so long that I think even the most fervent of junta fans would turn against them should they start prosecuting people. I mean, it is this joke of a government and police force releasing a new story about these bombings everyday to begin with.

Look at someone like CSI LA. He seems to have the relevant info before even the authorities do. He encourages critical thinking as well. I bet they'd love to nab him!

Basically it just shows proof that the junta says they are so popular, the public polls show they are so popular. The junta enablers on here show links to prove they are so popular.

But when it fomes time to vote that is a different matter.

Boy ...Thailand is sounding more like China and North Korea day by day. Thank You Suthep and Thank You Thaksin for making Thailand end up this way.I am just trying to find ways to liquidate my assets and get out of this country fast. No more future and its beyond salvation.

It was not just the Colonel who was making the broadcast in Thai. There were two women, one translating in to a not particularly good English and another in passable Mandarin.

And as usual breaking in to normal program scheduling.

Should we report the government officials who constantly provide false advice at press conferences when they clearly have no idea what they are talking about. Similar to yours on this topic as you present a danger to the reported intellegence of civilisation.

Why does it appear that every photo linked to a government statement was taken midway through a prostrate examination. Especially the directer general's which should have the caption "mmmm, are you sure you shouldnt check more thoroughly"

Well then tell the umpteen Thai police officials to stop causing "public confusion" on who they think was responsible for the Erewan bomb....

The officials are only concerned with what Thais think. Thais will believe anything they say. So they cover all the bases by having different officials say dfiferent things. Some Thais beileve one guy other thais believes another guy.all the people thus are kept confused and in the dark. After a week most thais will just give up and forget it all. never have to find out who did it. Great way to cover up.
