I just bought my first smart watch. I think it is a knock off of a knock off as I only paid 600 baht for the thing. Easy to set up and hooks into my bluetooth on my phone automatically. It rings on my wrist and I can hear and talk into it. Very clear. I was shocked. Has messages and all sorts of apps and talks to me to remind me to do things. For 600 baht I don't imagine it will last long and I'll get a better one. The battery life seems limited to a day or so but I'm still testing.

Do you talk to your dates before having sex?

Just to be clear, is that the right wrist or the left? (Don't ask why it makes a difference. TMI)

Am I really the only Thai Visa member who wears a smartwatch? I thought I would get some feedback as to brands and good and bad points of smartwatches.......

Why would you get feed back on brands? All you've told us is it cost you 600b. So I'm guessing it's NOT a smart watch in the true sense ie running a version of Android. Picture's and brand names of your watch please.

I don't know what you call a smart watch but the name of the product is smart watch.

you carry your phone in your pocket (which also will tell you the time) and use it via another gadget strapped to your wrist ......

WHY ?

It's not a smart watch in the true sense. More of a Bluetooth link.. Still impressive for 600baht though!

Looking at the bill actually 650. No independent sim. Needs the Android phone to work as a phone.

WHY ?

The phone (Galaxy S5) is in an armored case in a belt case and difficult to remove (or steal). Sometimes I carry the phone on my belt and sometimes in my shoulder bag. So the wrist phone makes it easy to answer and make calls. Also if in a noisy area I may not hear the phone ringing in the case or in my bag. The smartwatch vibrates and rings and is easy to hear.

You pull your phone out of your pocket, turn on the screen, unlock it, see that the beep was an unimportant message, return phone to pocket... WHY?

To the op...I have used a pebble for over a year and will have a preordered pebble time steel once it leaves the factory.

Never spoken to my wrist, original pebble cant and dont plan to on new one.

Notifications and simplifying simple tasks are key on a smartwatch. Trying to do things that are better done on different devices is pointless.

I thought about a Pebble but as you said it does not answer or make calls. My phone announces who the message is from and asks me if I want it to read the message so I don't have to look at the watch. Problem is I can't tell the watch to read the message like I can the phone. The phone asks if I want it read and then what to do with the message - delete or whatever but it will not respond to voice commands.

Can you answer and talk to another person with the Pebble and does it respond to voice commands and how much does it cost. Looks much better and sturdier than the U8 smart watch. I a bit confused by dial er for pebble and the firmware updates,

So I guess you have to buy a new phone to place calls and talk to people with the number on the android phone? Correct?

I saw a Pebble on Lazada for 35,000 baht.

I only pull it from my pocket if it rings.

So, turning back to the OP, 2 questions:

1) Would you recommend the purchase based on your experience?

2) Has anyone found a better one on the market? You can define better as more cost effective, or more useful or any way you like.

For 650 baht it's great. I tried it so I could get a feel for what it was like to wear a smartwatch. I'l like a more comfortable band (leather), waterproof and more positive touch screen controls. Voice control or stylus control would be nice. I like the look of the Pebble but wonder if you can send and receive calls and messages on it. Battery life I'm still playing with and don't know how long it will last. I'd like enough to make a few calls in a row without a recharg. My test has been good and I'm ready to spend some real money to buy a good one. Not apple because my phone is android and I'll not switch.

Thanks. Good info. More specific question: Would it be a reasonable piece of kit to wear while bicycling or scootering when pulling a phone out of my pocket wouldn't be prudent?

Surely on a bike a Bluetooth ear piece would be better so that you can keep both hands firmly on the handlebars.

I suspect you're right, but I'm curious about other folks' experiences. With no display on a Bluetooth headset, there may be some benefits to a smartwatch, and holding on with one hand. To date, I've just been digging into my pocket to answer the phone, and that seems dodgy.

Edit: I'm not in the market for a 15,000 baht smartwatch, but for 650, it would be a go...if the feedback is good from current users.

Look at the Motorola watch. It's had good reviews. And not to expensive @ 9k .

http://www.lazada.co.th/motorola-moto-360-smartwatch-leather-band-silver-748214.html

1. I read for 1/2 hour and can't find out if you can make a voice call from the thing. 2. If you run out of battery life you have to go home to use its charging cradle and as it only has a one day battery life I imagine that would be frequent.

Now I use a little power pack for back up in case of running out of power with my phone or watch.

Not a problem hearing or talking from about 12 inches.
