BANGKOK: -- LEADING Asian media and organisations have sent messages of support via The Nation to the Thai people to stay strong and united amidst adversities - in a show of solidarity following the August 17 bombing at the Ratchaprasong intersection.

The Nation is passing on these messages to the Thai public through various media channels of Nation Group today and in the coming days:

KEEP smiling, keep shining...

These words came to mind in the aftermath of the Erawan Shrine bombing tragedy. The Thai people are known for that: Their smiles and friendliness. I hope that the pain and sorrow will not erase those lovely smiles and instead they will stay strong during these dark times and let their patience, graciousness and goodness to shine through to the world.

People of Thailand, know that you can count on Malaysians. We feel your pain, we share your sorrow and we mourn with you all the innocent lives lost. As that Dionne Warwick song says: "That's what friends [and neighbours] are for … for good times and bad times, we'll be on your side forever more".

As the crisis now unfolding on the Korean Peninsula illustrates, South Koreans live with the constant security threat from North Korea, including terrorist attacks. This experience helps South Koreans understand how Thais must feelling about the recent bombing. The support from members of the Asia News Network (ANN), an alliance of 21 media in 19 Asian countries, comes as Thai policymakers, civil society and business leaders strive to boost public confidence in the wake of the devastating bombing.

Pana Janviroj, Nation Group's president of international affairs and executive director of ANN, expressed gratitude to the Asian editors for the prompt outpouring of support for Thailand.

"They are true friends, in both good and bad times. We can count on our Asian media alliance," he said.

Nation Group will lead a campaign to enable Thailand to stay strong, united and move forward and to support the bomb victims - both Thais and foreigners. "We aim to work with the government for prompt and necessary measures to rebuild confidence in the country," said Pana.

Nation Group chief executive officer Duangkamol Chotana said campaign activities will be outlined in the coming days, including visits by ANN members, regional activities and joint international multimedia initiatives.

She added that a plan is afoot for ANN journalists to visit Royal projects

If I may be able to add my small post. May Thailand be able to rise above this terrorist act. I hope Thailand understands that most of the countries in the world abhor what has happened. The best thing to negate terror is to mostly ignore it and let the authorities take care of it. Visit Thailand, it is still the Land of Smiles.
