Phnom Penh (Khmer Times) – Cambodia will host a three-day regional training summit next week to protect antiquities in the event of war. The summit, organized by Cambodian National Commission for UNESCO and the International Red Cross, will bring together military attachés from the ASEAN region to train them to protect their cultural heritage in the face of armed conflict.

It will begin on September 1 in Siem Reap and then move on to the conference hall of the military headquarters in Preah Vihear province.

“What we request to the countries is to prepare a dossier and protection of their assets,” said Anne LeMaistre, the head of UNESCO’s Cambodia office. “We are thinking also of museums. We are thinking of national archives. It’s important to identify them and to have some protection.”
