Driving in Cambodia is a contact sport. Once in Phnom Penh I saw three motorbike collisions in one day. None were serious and after a few harsh words all parties picked up their bikes and drove away.

Surprisingly enough in Cambodia, sihanoukville at least generally the motorcyclists ride at a very conservative speed, the tossers are the boys with the big flash motors who think they own the road due to their wealth.

The problem with Thailand is it has enough personal wealth to allow people to buy bikes, and cars.

Car/Van/Bus drivers kill a lot of scooter riders. Vietnam has a lot of scooter riders but not as many

cars so the death toll is not as high yet. Cambodia has fewer cars and scooters on the road so they

are some years behind on the death toll. It is just a matter of time before countries like Vietnam

and Cambodia with equally bad driving skills as drivers from Thailand to match Thailand's grim

road death statistics. Poor training, poor maintenance, poor law enforcement of road rules and

the cheap value of life all contribute.
