Hua Hin International School Now a Part of the Black Mountain Community

HUA HIN:- To check out the significant new player on the Hua Hin education scene, Hua Hin Today has taken the opportunity to visit the Hua Hin International School (HHIS) twice in August. First to meet the Headteacher, “Miss Julie” at temporary office premises, but then on 22nd August we were able to have a look at the ‘real thing’ during an open day to introduce parents and students to the school two days before classes commenced. The open day was not an ‘official opening’, that’s still to come. This was an opportunity for parents and students to get the ‘feel’ of the school, meet teachers and for kids to receive their very first school uniforms; a BIG day for them! Many of us can remember the early days of school with impressions that may last a lifetime. I still cringe when I hear ‘Brahms’ Lullaby’, which was the signal that an afternoon nap was due.

At the HHIS open day there was no signs of any cringing. The atmosphere was calm, very welcoming teachers and other staff exuded confidence which quickly transferred to the visitors with the kids clearly looking forward to their first day at school on Monday. The HHIS is a modern school in every way. Open wide spaces between class rooms, comfortable relaxing classrooms as well as recreational facilities and dining areas are a feature.

There’s also a sense of being part of the Black Mountain community with the school adding to the appeal of the surrounds, no longer just a housing estate but a real family home. Black Mountain General Manager Harald Elisson, two year old daughter in hand, was one of the visitors showing his appreciation of the new player on the BM scene. There will be more to come over the next few years with an additional high school building destined to adjoin the current early and primary year’s facilities. Managing Director Graham Sullivan proudly showed us around the site of around 19 Rai which links the Black Mountain Water Park to the Black Mountain Par Three golf course.

The school is not boxed into an enclosed ‘city-scape’ but amongst an open green environment providing ‘room to move’. There are still many opportunities for parents of prospective students to meet with school staff, including Headteacher Julie Wood. Apart from private meetings being welcomed, on 29th September ‘Miss Julie’ will be available at 8.30 am for informal meetings. There is also a further invitation to meet teachers and to discuss the progress and wellbeing of children after school on 14th and 15th October.

For my money, the construction of the article has a cringe-worthy, amateur, self-taught 'feel' to it too.
