Luke Mitchell death: Two Thai men found guilty of Brunswick 'good Samaritan' murder

VICTORIA: -- Two Thai men have been found guilty of murdering "good Samaritan" Luke Mitchell, who was stabbed to death after intervening in a fight in Brunswick in 2009.

Thatiya Terdputham and Sarud Seehaverachart were extradited from Thailand to face trial in the Victorian Supreme Court.

Mr Mitchell had stepped in to protect his sister-in-law after she tried to stop another man being assaulted outside The Spot nightclub on Sydney Road.

The men then turned their attention to him and they fought in the street.

The court was earlier told after Mitchell left the scene, Seehaverachart and Terdputham were angry and followed his group to a convenience store, where they set upon him in the car park with knives.

He died several hours later of his injuries.

Mr Mitchell's parents were in court and cried as the verdict was handed down.

No bail and 500 Baht fine after conviction this time...

It took a while but, yes, I'm sure they'll be surprised when the sentencing is handed down.

Then again, doesn't Australia have an agreement with Thailand about convicted people being repatriated to a prison in their country of citizenship after a certain period of time?

It is because they are raised from birth with absolutely no concept of law and order.

There are 69 million others with a similar disregard for the law of their own country.

Unfortunately for these two, other countries see respect for law somewhat differently.

I am glad Austalia is doing something -but they are a big, rich country and I am not a fan of Ossie politics-particularly Mr Abbot.

Jeez - a real dumb comment. I am not an Abbott fan (nor a Shorten or Milne fan either) but none of them have anything to do with the topic. facepalm.gif

Good to see justice being done. Seems like the Thais were drinking, mouthing off and bullying and got sorted by the victim. Of course they can't accept that so knifed him to death.

Wonder if the Thai authorities will learning anything about police operations and judicial procedures from this case .............. nah, course not.

They might be the first to fight it.

They must do the Australian time regardless of where they serve it.

and they will get what they deserve life in prison and hell afterwards. No one to bribe in AUS it will just get you even more time. Enjoy lads!

Not in Australia mate, they won't get any more than 15 years, and will end up doing about half of that. And as for hell, an Aussie prison would be like a 5 star hotel compared with what they would have in Thailand

If he crime had happened in Thailand, the Thais would either....

>>> get a few years in prison, but get pardoned after a year or two. or,

>>> if they're well connected socially, or their daddies' are rich, they'd get a stern warning not to do it again, and let go.

Either way, there would be an offer of Bt.3,000 or so to the Australian families - as compensation.

Well a conviction is not the worst news yet for these 2.

The worst news to come is once they are in jail, as Thai jails are nothing in comparison to Australian jails in terms of other inmates being double if not triple the size, guards can not be paid off and sweet asian boys are in demand for nightly romps.

I be surprised if they make it out of jail alive or healthy as i am certain they would be raped on daily basis, even if they ask to be housed in Asian/Vietnamese cell blocks

Give credit where its due!

The Thai cops searched for them and found and arrested them , and honoured the extradition laws

These murderers WILL serve a lot of time , and bribery/corruption wont let them out with a slap on the wrist , no matter how much Pappa is earning

Believe it or not , theres police here who are actually cheering that , and are trying not to just give up and take the bribes even when they see the blatant corruption of the Thai Judiciary they are stuck with serving

If you actually bothered to read the OP before making silly comments, it clearly states one of them was sentenced to 15 with minimum 11 years to be served.

Secondly, unless you have been to Australian jail, do not again make silly statements of its being 5 star hotel.

People like these 2 will be raped on daily basis and if they unlucky enough to be sent to max security prison, its lock downs for most of the time and again raped on daily basis.

If they somehow manage to join the Vietnamese, their life might be little better, however in Australian jails, ethnic group fights are very common and a big rivalry exist( at least use it) between Vietnamese and Pacific Islanders.

The guy who will be worse off out the of 3 is the one that topped off the other 2.....this may be standard practise in Thailand, to name everyone else---however it isn't quite the norm in Oz................................coffee1.gif

How do you know Asian boys are sweet?

Depends on the prison they are sent to. Victoria has one the worst/ best prison for bad offenders. Called Pentridge. Maximum security. All the scum are sent there & hopefully these men will go there to. They will be well looked after by the other inmates. Pretty little Thai men with tight ar*e. Hope they rot in hell.
