can anyone explain to me what the Channel 3 News was going on about last night?

at around 10pm i saw the Channel 3 News.

it was going on and on (and on) about "Scales" (weighing scales, kitchen scales and something about 55kiliograms...

and then it was focusing on a "spring" (under the scales).

Was this something about the Bangkok Bombing?

or was it something else?

what on earth was it?

please let me know if you saw (and understood) it :)

Thanks ;)

I didn't see it but a spring and scales.....maybe a scale with a spring under it so the scale would weigh less kilo's?

How many kilo's does a full ricebag weigh when the farmer comes to the wholesale buyer? Something around 55 maybe?

Some market vendors etc. are overcharging shoppers by using dodgy scales. That's it. Authorities are going to stop it. smile.png

Almost all vendors do it, i have a scale at home and if i feel cheated i weigh again at home. Mostly it's 10-15% difference and always in advantage of the vendor.

Another trick is putting bags/cups half full, like they do with yoghurt or potato chips/nuts.

Last week we ordered medium pizza's from Pizzacompany and they were half the size they should be.

What can you do about it?

yes. I know what you mean.

especially half filling (or quarter-filling) a bottle so that you believe it is fuller than it is.

i am SURE that the pizza company pizzas have SHRUNK in size since 5 years ago.

as a suggestion, start ordering the ITALIAN THIN CRUST base. (it used to be horrible and crispy, but now, actually, the italian thin crust base is REALLY NICE.. almost the same as a semi-decent italian restaurant).

i stopped ordering Deep Pan pizzas a few years ago when I realized how much bread it is and how silly it was...

thin crust is thinner and WIDER...

probably the same dough... (spread out to a larger circumference), BUT way more tasty and more topping surface area.

give it a try :)

thanks for your replies ;)

do you rekon supermarkets ever do this too ?

- probably not coz it would be terrible for them if the news reported it.

i'm gonna do some weight-checking (on my home scales) in the next week or two, to see if any of my local sellers are doing this to me.

Thanks for the info :)

My wife and collegues just ordered Fuji (or Zen i forgot) dinner to be delivered at work.

My wife's collegue got a very tiny portion of what she ordered, then made a pic and put it on the restaurants Facebook and also a pic of the real dish in full size.

They apologised for it but she had to ask them what they would do to make her a happy customer again. Finally she could get something if she would come to the restaurant in person, which she didn't go. Next time they 'll order other food to be delivered when the boss is paying.

Naming and shaming works but it's still a shame. Japanese restaurants are loosing their good reputation fast in Bangkok.
