NLA’s Wallop suggests use of rejected charter in restarting Constitution drafting

BANGKOK, 13 September 2015 (NNT) - A member of the legislature has suggested that the new Constitution drafters use content from the rejected draft when the process is restarted.

Speculations continue about the progress in Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha’s selection of the new charter drafters after the PM conceded that he already had some names in his mind.

Member of the National Legislative Assembly Wallop Tangkananurak commented that the new team of the charter drafters should comprise members of various backgrounds, such as legal affairs, political science, former charter drafters, NLA members and those representing the civil society.

He also suggested that the new Constitution drafting team should refer to the draft that was voted down by the National Reform Council as he believes that at least 70% of that draft is still good.

Concerning the head of the drafting team, Mr. Wallop said that this person should be a legal expert.
