17 SEPTEMBER 2015

As she prepares to direct a new film based on Cambodia's brutal Khmer Rouge, Angelina Jolie has travelled to the Asian country to meet with its Prime Minister, Hun Sen. The actress and the politician met at the Peace Palace, in the capital city of Phnom Penh, on Thursday.

Angelina has made numerous visits to the country in the lead up to filming, but this time she was granted a special meeting with the prime minister.

The Hollywood star, who is also a dedicated humanitarian, oozed confidence in a white cotton blouse, black trousers and a pair of nude heels.

Angelina Jolie met with Prime Minister Hun Sen in Cambodia to discuss the new film she is directing

Angelina and Mr Hun Sen were pictured shaking hands and discussing the mum-of-six's new project. She will adapt the harrowing memoir, First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers by survivor Loung Ung, into a factual film and will start directing it in November.

The film will focus on the vicious Khmer Rouge regime, which was responsible for an estimated two million deaths, and will be seen through the eyes of a war-scarred child.

The film will be based on the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge regime

In June Angelina announced her decision to direct the film, after having read the memoir and met with the author. Together the pair adapted the book into a screenplay.

"I was deeply affected by Loung's book," said Angelina. "It deepened forever my understanding of how children experience war and are affected by the emotional memory of it. And it helped me draw closer still to the people of Cambodia, my son's homeland."

The 40-year-old actress, who adopted her eldest son Maddox from Cambodia when he was just a baby, added: "It is a dream come true to be able to adapt this book for the screen, and I'm honoured to work alongside Loung and filmmaker Rithy Panh."

Angelina's teenage son Maddox, who is from Cambodia, will be involved in the production

The Netflix Original Film will be available on the streaming service in late 2016.

Angelina has already said that her 14-year-old son Maddox, who came from an orphanage in Battambang, would be involved in the production of the film.

It will not be the first time Angelina has worked on a film with a member of her family; she directed and co-starred in By The Sea with her husband Brad Pitt and has also starred alongside daughter Vivienne, who played a young Princess Aurora, in her 2014 film Maleficent. Angelina's other children Zahara and Pax also had small walk-on parts.

TheKnave.... U beat me to it.

I was in SR when Mrs Obama visited in March. Photo ops. for the elite and corrupt.

Children starving on the streets whilst NGO staff are driving around in LEXUS SUV's.

Get a f#@&ing grip.

The Khmer Rouge might not be slaughtering people openly, but the government is full of them and the people are still starving.

I have attended several UN aid conferences as a speaker and moderator. Corruption always gets discussed. But. stand back and watch just how parasitic the whole "aid industry" has now become. Many commercial enterprises focus on this sector - one of growth and seemingly good profits.

Hun Sen, of course, was himself a Khmer Rouge commander, and has been accused by Amnesty International of using torture during his rule of Cambodia.

And he continues to be one of the greatest despots of our time. He evicts his citizens from their land, so he and his generals can earn billions. He assassinates labor leaders, such as Chea Vichea. He terrorizes his people. His security detail numbers nearly 5,000 men, if that tells you anything. He is despised by millions. I understand she needs his cooperation to get the film made. But, lets call a spade a spade.

The book was quite educational, but having read it and lived in Cambodia, not sure I will see the movie. Glad she is bringing Hollywood money into Cambodia. Hope there will be some opportunities for the deservant .

As if any of that money will end up in pockets other than connected politicians'...
