Well thanks for all the 'informative' replies! Hilarious.

I am massively against 'touts' (being an Irishman myself), I have despised them for as long as I can remember.

However, lets just say there is a lengthy backstory to this post of mine I am quite sure if any of you had been affected by this person in the way I have - you would be following down the same path. I am also quite sure if you had met him, within 5 minutes you would be on this forum encouraging me to follow through with it.

I see no need or desire to please any of you, or your instant conclusions which are based on zero information on the situation. I shall call you all "The Contradictory Brigade'. Its awesome seeing some of you have so little to do but contradict and denigrate someone you know nothing about and about a situation which you are only seeing the consequences of - not the whole story. So, I applaud you're rational attempts to convince me against the decision. It's been wonderful reading them.

It's fantastic that this post slagging us off is about double your initial post. Maybe if you had put as much effort into that one, things may have been different!

My view is if he is breaking a law (not an M.O.E regulation) that is affecting his students then fine, report that!

Otherwise it's between his employer and him.

If he was a teacher teaching my kid and he was not legal and doing a poor job I would report him too.

I also would not want a dropout being my lawyer in court. But if they had all the fake degrees and other documents you wouldn't know the difference until it was too late.

It like paying for a shot of Johnny Walker Gold and getting a shot of cheap Thai crap, would you say never mind.

I have no respect for liars or cheats....

For the record, Thailand is a pretty skeezy place and was that way before farang grifters found it on the map.

If people want to engage in petty, non violent criminality my 25 years here would show not much concern, especially if it did not in/directly involve me.

My issue is threefold, that almost everyone I have had to work with, without a degree has also come with an absolutely horrible work ethic. Actually, many of the older guys do the job. The younger you get off 50, the worse it becomes. Single men 35-45 being worst offenders. Second, that children and education both are involved. I wont dwell on these issues but they involve someones children even if they are not yours and national government. Finally, the only reason that degreeless teachers are allowed to step foot on a campus is the acute shortage of cheap-ass teachers and corruption. Never ever in Japan, Korea, EU... so its folly to defend the degreeless and it is also so ironic. A person who never valued education is now promoting it.

The sad truth is you would be quite fine foing barwork, perhaps far happier except teaching is the only job you can perform here so you defend your right to do as you please.

No degree - are you proud of this? It is/was your decision. Are your students aware of this?

Like I stated, be honest. Take a job as a contractor. Learn the craft. Take it seriously. Trouble is, most hapless, degreeless drifters have no ambition and that's why they've no diploma in the first place.

Loveless marriage...Stated like a true interloper. Thailand and the world has changed bro. You're very, very late to the party. Now, please shuffle off to your b3k flat and bottle of lao.khao.

Its a sad, dire existence for you, how can it not be? You hate your job, living a lie and truth to tell hate the country. I used to think you were here for the girls and alcohol but you cant afford either. You're just grinding out an existence as far away from bad weather as possible. You've no more hope here than back home, less really. Zombie teacher.

In the end, its about the children. Its about protecting them and giving them the brst education possible. If Thais want to provide inferior education, that is their national prerogative. You don't get to wash up here and add to the issues.

Lying is never a good idea but I think I'm stating this to persons who've spent a lifetime engaged in such antics. Schools ere are full of sociopaths and pathologic liars.

Just so we are clear. Turn the person in or not. They are as is anyone else engaged as such - frauds and liars. Which for Thailand is not suprising.

PS:I realize that expats do little or nithing for one another (teachers are some of the worst lot) but there are many luk krung in my school, I perhaps teach a dozen myself. I feel really sad when I know they have some crap teacher. These kids need the most out of the system.

How much better would teaching be if the riffraff was simply cleaned out of the system?

Verifying a degree is simple. A fake degree on paper even in tbis high tech age is easily recognizable.

I've seen the unqualified teacher cliques in action, and would hate to have to put up with their BS (Gay or not), while I'm legit and earning the same pay. It is likely they feel threatened. I could even name a few of the universities that the fraudsters seem to disproportionately have their "degrees" from. Might be a good thread sometime.

I think the problem with your posts is that beyond not having a degree and smoking weed you haven't said much about how this guy is unsuitable as a teacher. I mean not having a degree and smoking blow hardly feature on the Richter scale of bad character. Tell us more, what is he doing?

Good on the OP for taking a stand. While many TV members will shout "don't be a tattle tale" and "mind your own business", these are likely people doing something illegal themselves and fear someone will report them. A person who come here and does something illegal is a criminal, they are doing it by choice. They should be exposed. I would not want to be sending my children to a school where the so called "teachers" have a get-away-with-whatever-you-can approach to life....

So you are not sure if you teach the students or not ?

They can just move to the school where I am currently enployed. Perhaps only 25% of us have degrees snd that includes diplomas from third world institutions which are worthless as is generally he work ethic by those who possess such toilet paper.

I'm no longer amazed by the low standards, the sloth and the indifference. Teaching is merely a vehicle to remain in this country. The position provides a visa and 30k without both these 'teachers' would be at home and on the dole or working at Megalomart.

In the end, the schools have options. They can petition the govt for reasonable terms to attract quality graduates and provide reasonable compensation. Or...the can hire drunks, flakes, miscreants, creepers, uneducated, incompetent and worst of all - lazy, indifferent warm bodies. They sat in a class for a month, learned three games and basics of classroom management. Never in their dreams prior, any notion of teaching or training. Usually, its restaurant work and a patchwork of totally odd jobs.

This lot had a holiday in Thailand or clicked on a banner while cruising porn on the Internet. Jobs abroad, live in Thailand, new career!! Instant PROFESSIONAL reborn. Ahh...living the dream.

I see a time in not to distant future that quality teachers will be able to command far more money. Those that can manage to stay in the system (visas, waivers); a sober person with a solid work ethic and a BA from a real uni with a real major will be able to command 40-45k or more.

To the op...the fraudsters, yeah I feel your pain. It's dishonest. Not so ironically, its easy to pick out those with no university degree here in Thailand.

After getting the student feedback for our group, I'm more convinced than ever that a fraudulent degree is the least of the students problems. Most don't even want to be there. I find it most bizarre to move all the way around the world, to piss and moan abiut the wages (more than they deserve anyway) and in a passive rebellion, do a really horrible job; not that they are capable of actively doing a better one - its just the excuse.

Please just leave Thailand, Id say leave education, but you have no money or visa so you'd be gone anyway. You have no connection to this nation. It might as well be Uranus.

You have been here <5 years, you have no quality relationship with a Thai national, you've traveled nowhere and seen nothing, you speak none of the language, you cant eat the food, you don't understand the religion nor care and you know nothing of and adjectly fail to participate in the culture. Finally, you've brought all your gay issues snd baggage for which you could not sort out at home - to Thailand. All the people that work with you have to contend with this. There is a serious contingent of crazy and often creepy homosexuals here that make serious problems for good teachers. What they cant accomplish by hard work they try to accomplish thru calculations, gossip, lies, subterfuge - and yes, many, many do not have degrees (four in three schools I have worked). Thailand is a magnet, even more so the schools. Fraudulent diploma? Fraudulent people.

If you don't have a degree and insist on working here. Show some respect for those that have accomplished what you never bothered to. It wasn't important right? Ooops. Endeavor to do the best job you possibly can each day. Do DELTA course. Follow education issues in Thailand. In short, make the effort, remake yourself into something useful. Take pride in yourself and your job or go to F home.

If the person is a real ass, Id send an anon email to tct or snail mail. Indicate they might want to check the credentials of your John Doe. Seems to be active rebellion of shitty teachers against the system. IF this person is truly a fraud as his diploma, turn him in. WFT.

I'm actually amazed at your post because YOU yourself must be a fully qualified teacher holding a degree in education and a Thai teaching licence BUT yet you work in a school that allows " only 25% of us have degrees snd that includes diplomas from third world institutions"

How is that possible?

They can just move to the school where I am currently enployed

How's that possible? He isn't really working there full time. because he's enployed there. No idea about the gay issues. Must be his life after school, when he dresses up,, perhaps?

Let's all report Mencken. I start.....

Good, they are putting the education of Thai kids at risk for their own selfish reasons and deserve al they get

C'mon Mr Jacky grow up! At least they want to teach Thai kids. Thai teachers just want to go to lunch, discuss their next trip to burma or how much the next promotion will cost! Even unqualified, keen, teachers are better than none. I'm not sure if some of you expats should have left home?? sad.pngwai.gif

THE TEACHER’S COUNCIL of Thailand (TCT) has updated its list of recognised native English language speakers – and the Republic of Ireland hasn’t made the cut.Under the new rules introduced earlier this year, citizens hailing from only five countries can automatically be considered native English speakers and therefore be entitled to TCT provisional teaching permit – those countries are named as: “The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, The United States of America, Commonwealth of Australia, New Zealand and Canada”.

I would add that unless you are from Northern Ireland you are also being a fraud considering you are no doubt getting paid a salary indicative of being a native English speaker when in reality you may not be.

I'm pretty sure that with his references to being a grass the op is a protestant from the north with a family history of familiarity with the RUC. If not then he needs to take a TOIEC test with the Filipinos and expect a reduced salary.

I know for a fact that you don't NEED a degree to teach TEFL in the UK and Spain.

" While it's not usually a legal requirement to hold a four-year degree to teach English in most European countries, in Western European nations like Italy, France, Germany, most schools do look to hire English teachers with four-year degrees."

In Korea there is also a scheme that allows experience instead of a degree (but it requires references etc)

Posted (edited)

I taught English for 7 years. Most of the teachers I worked with had a fake degree or got help from the school to stay on. My degree may or may not of been legit.

Go on B..tch.. report me!

When I had stated that I perhaps teach a dozen or so mixed kids I was uncertain about the number, not whether I teach or not. Do try and keep up. Realize your education creds are not strong.

Yes, smoking weed. Its not smoking weed being an issue per se, it's doing so in Thailand. Its a mess of a problem and deportable offence.

Jobs in Spain? 30% unemployment, surely you jest. As for UK, imagine those are some quality positions 555. Germany? Switzerland?

Love to see the race to the bottom. No degree, no TOEIC, no criminal checks?

Cant smoke weed legally in UK, why is it acceptable here? Just another low for this subforum.

I truly wonder if many 'teachers' have even accepted that they have a job, that there is an expectation that they will perform in that position.

Keep defending the indefensible. Too lulz.

Not hiring nes from UK seems to be an excellent way to avoid much drama. Guaranteed all the defenders of this nonsense are UK. No, I'm not trolling.

Hiring someone from UK seems very black and white to me, unless they are clearly employable, they are not.

There is a role in Thailand for those without degrees. A person can work legally, they can be good conversation teachers (wouldn't trust them in a reading or writing course though).

At the end of the day, not having a BA is a dirty secret, never proud of and never discussed. Thai teachers would think even less of you than they do now. Students would just smirk, no surprise there.

For the record, there are tons of crap teachers with degrees as well.

Can we at least get a stop to moaning about 30k a month?

So Mencken. Are you a fully qualified native English speaking teacher here in Thailand complete with Education degree and Thai teaching licence?

I ask because you seem to have very strong opinions about teaching and the validity of others credentials yet seem to work in an school environment that favours exactly the opposite of what you espouse!

Reporting someone for having a fake degree is not a good idea , it could only be as an act of spite , which could have serious repercussions .

My guess is that fake degrees are common in Thailand , where the piece of paper is more important for getting a job , than the real qualified knowledge .

Fake degree or not dummy up . Why would you want to do this to someone Its not a crime that rises to treason or bank robber

Just move on with your life and forget the idiot with a fake degree

Can we have more of the apparent 'history' as to how 'Jacky' (the OP) has made an arse of things everywhere they go?

Some folks are just pure poison, rabidly envious of those more successful (in any aspect of life) and the expatriate community is better off without venomous to55ers like them; especially bitter snidey grasses like the OP.....I'm sticking with my version of things earlier that this 'fake degree'' has popped the OP's missus one (or two).

Why so jealous? Isn't it up to the school to screen these people, or are you doing this because it's your duty?

They'll probably get caught anyways if not fired first.

Someone may report you someday.

This seems more like envy than anything. I remember a former marine came here and worked as a bartender, everyone loved him and was having the time of his life working in a very well known bar.

Another guy tried to befriend him and asked to put a good word in so he could work there as well. He said the manager didn't approve as he seemed like an introvert and would not fit in. Not long after, the manager and worker received a visit, as it was obvious that jerk called it in. It was more of an inconvenience, as everything was in order, but that guy was told to stay away from the bar.

Fake degree? He'll be caught without your help.

I prefer a person with a fake degree, who's making a real effort to teach well, above a person who has a "real" degree, printed in ********* and thinks he is....

To topic... Its always interesting to find out the reason why an OP wants this...

OP, what is your motive ? Why did you got suspicious about the degree ?

FYI, i have seen Thai persons with a piece of tissue in their hands making more impression on people then an MIT professor with the highest degree's humanly possible, and that is not a joke...

Accounts for why a lot of countries, not Thailand, need an authenticated certification that the degree is not a fake.

How do you know the authenticated certification isn't a fake too?

Fake degree? Who cares. Just go on with your life.

Maybe if someone with a fake driving licence killed or injured one of your friends or family, you might be playing a different tune. Also I know if I had worked hard to get my degree and someone had theirs given I probably would be a little peeved. And why moan about Thai corruption when its happening in their own ranks?
