NBTC to move forward 4G auction

BANGKOK: -- Mobile phone operators can receive auction papers of 4G spectrum in the 900 MHz bandwidth from the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission on Tuesday until October 21, said NBTC secretary-general Thakorn Tanthasith on Monday.

The moving up of the timetable to receive the auction documents means that the auction which was earlier scheduled to take place on December 15 will be moved forward to November which will be close to the auction of the 1800 MHz bandwidth scheduled on November 11, he said.

Mr Thakorn said that the holding of the two auctions in the same month would not impact on the auction prices as the NBTC has put in place regulations to prevent possible auction collusion.

He noted that the auction prices of the 4G spectrum in the 900 and 1800 bandwidths are higher than those of the 3G spectrum in the 2100 MHz as the starting auction price of the 1800 MHz will start at 530.4 million baht per MHz compared to 450 million baht/MHz for the 2100 MHz bandwidth.

The starting auction price of the 900 MHz bandwidth is set at 643.2 million baht/MHz.
