Bluebook Transfer With Owner Not in Thailand

Featured Replies

I live in Phuket and bought a car from a UK gentleman about a year ago. The blue book is in his name. He gave me a signed copy of his passport page, visa page, and Thai vehicle transfer document. He also signed a contract I wrote, transferring ownership. All passport stuff was notarized. I had just started a new job though and was unable to find time to leave during the day to the Land Transport office. Now I want to sell it and I called him today but haven't reached him yet. I am wondering what my options would be if he doe not respond.

I believe he still lives here but what if he's moved away? I never worried about it because I know many people who bought cars and scooters and never bothered paying to transfer the book to their name but now one of my potential buyers is demanding it. Are there any special forms? Exceptions allowed?

Your options not good without a copy of the registered owners current valid Visa/Extension, sell it very cheap as cannot transfer ownership.

Try to find him. You need his visa info plus make sure other paperwork is still up to date. Without that it is a no go.

Just to reiterate unless he has a valid visa you have no chance of transferring ownership to yourself.

There are standard authorization forms that have to be signed and provided to DLT for change of ownership. Can be done/signed elsewhere if the papers are otherwise correct.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I appreciate the information.

Luckily the previous owner did get back in contact, is still living in Phuket, and is willing to get me updated paperwork. Lucky break.

Thanks again.
