Retirement Visa

Featured Replies

If a Retirement Visa ( above 50 years old ) apply in Singapore is only valid for a single entry only can this be changed to a multiple-entry in Chiangmai. immigration office...thanks...

If you are asking about a Single Entry Non Imm O Visa it can be extended by 12 months if you have 800,000 Baht in the bank or 65,000 Baht monthly income or a combination of the two.

Different requirements if you have a Thai spouse.

Just to clarify, the requirements for an extension of stay based on retirement, (which the OP asked about), are the same whether you are married or not.

The same.

Different requirements exist if applying for an extension of stay based on marriage.

Having a Thai Spouse would give him the option of getting a Marriage Extension with lower financials.

He did not actually ask about getting any extension.

I was just pointing out a few options.

Your friend cannot "convert" a single entry "O" visa to a multi-entry visa.

He could extend his permission to stay by applying for an "extension of stay based on retirement" . Buying a re-entry permit once he has the extension would allow trips outside Thailand.

2.22 In the case of retirement:
Each permission shall be granted for no more than one year.

The alien:
(1) Must have been granted a non-immigrant visa (NON-IM).
(2) Must be 50 years of age or over.
(3) Must have evidence of having income of no less than Baht 65,000 per month: or
(4) On the filing date, the applicant must have funds deposited in a bank in Thailand of no less than Baht 800,000 for the past three months. For the first year only, the applicant must have proof of a deposit account in which said amount of funds has been maintained for no less than 60 days prior to the filing date: or
(5) Must have an annual earning and fluids deposited with a bank totaling no less than Baht 800,0000 as of the filing date.

I would need to know what kind of visa they were issuing. He should be able to get a OA visa. If they were to issue him a single entry OA visa which he would get a one year entry that he could get a multiple re-entry permit for at an immigration office. Perhaps that is what theyh meant at the embassy.

If it is a non-o visa he could apply for an extension of stay based upon retirement and then get a multiple re-entry permit.

A single non-o visa will give a 90 day entry. If he needed to travel during the 90 days he could get a re-entry permit to keep it valid and then apply for the extension during the last 30 days of it.

I understand it's a Non-immigrant retirement visa which allows him to stay in thailand for year subject to conditions...now what he wants is to stay in thailand for 1-2 months flies back to Singapore for a month or so and back to thailand again...and again ...that's why he needs a multiple-entry visa, not single...thanks.

If he really does have a Single Entry Non Imm O-A Visa:

He needs a Re entry Permit from Immigration. Multi Entry 3,800 Baht.

I thought that single entries were no longer issued so you need to check what he really does have.

It's a Non-Immigrant Visa O-A ( Long stay/Retirement )..so he can get a multiple re-entry in Chiangmai,, thanks

A Non-OA is always multi entry, remember the 'A' stands for annual.

He needs to look at his visa to see if it has an S or M by entries.

Embassies and consulates stopped issuing single entry OA visas several years ago.

If your friend does indeed have a single entry O/A visa he will need to buy buy a multi-entry reentry permit from immigration.

O/A visas are usually issued as multi-entry.

The Detail about an O/A visa can be found on the Singapore Thai embassy web site.

Pre-Approved for retirement. You are correct.

I don't really know what the A in O-A visa stands for but the O-A visa is a very specific thing obtained only in home countries and it is also called a Retirement or LONG STAY visa.

As far as the multiple entry aspect of O-A visas, apparently these days they are only issued as multiple entry visas but in the past there was the OPTION to get an O-A visa that was only good for one entry.

Cheers.

So where is it officially written that the A stands for Approved?

In all my years of reading ThaiVisa it has always been known as such.

Probably not the greatest source: http://www.apply-thai-visa.com/thailand-retirement-visa.html

Thailand Retirement Visa

A retirement visa is available for people 50 or over and allow for a single stay of one year with an extension inside Thailand. Apply at any Thai consulate for a Non-immigrant Visa category O-A. This is a Non-O visa pre-approved for retirement.

Good enough for me. Thanks. thumbsup.gif
