feeding wild birds

Featured Replies

I like to see/hear the birds here in BKK and there are plenty.

Now i have a birdfeeding table but i don't know what food they like.

I bought some bags of birdfood but then only doves and sparrows come to eat.

When i feed them bread or rice i get those black ones who like to walk in the grass.

What can i feed them to get the more rare ones?

Ant you get Angry Bird cheesy.gif

We have a tropical garden in my condo area, Jomtien, and the staff here make sure to feed the wild birds every day .

We have lots of Common Myna (the black ones) and they seem to eat anything, Other common birds here are warblers and some sort of flycatchers. I am not sure about the other names of the birds but they are feeding them with bananas and dried fruit.

I absolutely love to see birds in the wild. The WORST!!! thing a person can do is feed a wild bird. If you enjoy birds, plant native plants and trees provide nesting nooks and materials and lock cats indoors. Sit back and enjoy watching wild birds capably looking after themselves.

In the condo I run we have several species of birds... The one thing that have in common is eating from the spirit house offerings!... Rice, fruit, meat even... It all goes and the skinks clear up what is left. I am thinking however about setting some butterfly feeding stations but it will need careful thinking about due to ants.

Excellent food for dogs disastrous for birds. Contains theobromine

Pieces of fresh fruit, cooked rice, sponge cake and bread is great for pulling the birds in Thailand.

I have never seen a bird cook processed rice, bake a sponge cake or make bread. Simply not even close to the nutritional value required by a wild bird.

Some birds may eat fruit because they are equipped to harvest a specific fruit, some birds simply will never eat some fruits because they are not equipped to harvest that particular fruit.

Sorry but feeding wild birds harms them.

I didn't want to give them fruit because also the squarrels come to eat here which is fine. But i have a mangotree and i don't want them to steal from it, they never did though.

They also ate pizza today but it had to be wet from rain first.

Here in BKK there are plenty birds, i even saw a huge owl some months ago, small owls i've seen many times but not in my garden. Many times a day i have a qeueu for the foodplate, they all wait for their turn but the squirrels are the boss. We don't have real wild birds, they are all citybirds i guess.

I had very big ones coming to eat all fish out of my pond, especially the colorfull ones.facepalm.gif

To make the butterfly attractionpark without ants you can buy pots of very sticky stuff against ants. Put it on the legs of the table or put them in water.

We have many butterfly's as well, having flowers in the garden attracts them.

I had a bag of old crushed hazelnuts which the birds all liked, it's finished now and i'm not going to buy that for them. Maybe there are cheap thai nuts that they really like?

How is it "disastrous for birds" ?

What difference does it make that it has theobromine?

oats, I used to give them some in the Uk but be careful of pigeons and rats

I agree with the poster that stated you shouldn't feed wild birds, but what can I do about the flocks of mynahs that eat about 25% of the food that I put out for my turkeys and chickens?

You need to diversify your chicken stock... I dare any mynah to steal this guy's food.

Best way is to plant , plants that the birds feed off If you dont have a garden put them in pots, or just have a bird feeder that hangs up somewhere in view,

If you want birds just set up a bath for them, they seem to love it.

Now we have around 10 birds in the garden, ALL day long. They like the birdfood from the shop, very small seeds. They also like to fight a lot.

Very small ones come now in green colors, also one i call the alarmclock bird because that's how it sounds (very annoying). Big fat pidgeons come together.

But i don;t see the black ones who walk in the grass, some have a mohawk and others not. They make incredible noises.

I'll make a bath for them as well.

Also the squirrels of the neighbourhood know it now and come in groups.

Which plants do they like?

Catnip

I give them french fries every afternoon. They seem to love them

I was thinking of taking up bird watching as a hobby, I think there is a lot of good places in Pattaya especially in the walking Street area

If you want wild birds, Soi 6 would be a better place to start

please refrain from feeding wild birds on your balcony ,veranda or patio, they become used to a regular food source and teach their offspring to feed there as a primary safe source of food, there is nothing worse coming back home after a couple of weeks away finding your patio covered with dead birds who have lost the ability to search for food and have starved to death!!

We've been "feeding" birds for 15 years and leave for weeks at a time and never come home to dead birds laying around.

Today i didn't feed them but they all came sitting in the empty bowl. Also they sit on my bike and shit on the mirrors facepalm.gif

They even don't care for rain or full sun which surprised me. In a few days i'll feed them again, too much rain now then the seeds wash on the lawn and sprout there.
