Not sure I actually need one as the new pp was issued in the UK and was used to enter Thailand. Contacting the brit consular service in bkk I got a very prompt and helpful reply. However they state twice Thai immigration will transfer visas to the new pp, as far as I know this is incorrect and they only transfer extension stamps. They go on to say I just fill out the form and take it to immigration, whilst on here I have read send it back to the embassy first. Is the consular service wrong on both things, or just one? They send the form to fill in, at least no charge.

The embassy uses the wrong terminology on their letters even.

Visas are not transferred only extension of stay are.

Whether you need the letter or not depends upon the office you have to use. Some will want it even thought you got your passport in the UK and used it for entry.

You used to have to take the form to the Embassy, but they changed this without thinking it necessary to inform anyone, causing at least one person, me, to take an unnecessary trip to the Embassy.

If you have the form/letter you just fill it in yourself. It should have a stamp/printed request signature from the vice-consul at the bottom.

Mine was accepted at Chaengwattana with no problem a few weeks ago for transfer of retirement extension stamps, with no input at all from the Embassy.

Right, but I think the form is the same-the one the OP says they send with no charge- this is also handed over to you no charge at Trendy when you pick up your passport.

EDIT: wait a minute, I must be wrong here, because the form the OP has would not have a consul's stamp on it, as it comes from the UK, you are right. Maybe this one does need an Embassy stamp, if it does not have some official UK government stamp on it when supplied to the OP.

I filled it in and will take it, immigration will probably want something I have not thought of as usual, thanks. Surprised it's no charge, as should be.
