Don’t be ridiculous, medical staff behave that way all over the world. It is not unique to Thailand. Sixteen years ago, I was in a waiting room in an American hospital, doubled over with severe abdominal pain, and was told by a nurse to sit and wait for an orderly to take me to an exam room. She then continued her phone conversation, giggling incessantly and showing complete indifference to my condition. About fifty years ago, I was lying on a gurney in severe pain in a San Francisco emergency clinic, being treated by a Czech doctor, when an American doctor walked in, struck up a conversation, and started laughing about something. Needless to say, I felt like slugging the guy. That said, when I needed emergency care for my injured right hand last May, I went to a Thai hospital and could not have received better treatment anywhere in the world. In fact, all of my experiences with Thai medical professionals have been positive.
