Hi. Do i need to cancel my ed visa at jomtien immigration and get a 7 day extension and then go to laos to apply for non o? Apparently i cant cancel my ed visa at the border any more.

My ed visa finishes october 8th and i have to take a letter to my local immigration from my school saying i want to finish studying on a certain date so i can leave the country. You used to be able to do it at the border of laos but because of those turds with bombs u cant any more.

Ok so it was good for a single 90 day entry and will expire on the date indicated on the entry stamp in your visa.

It cannot be cancelled and a letter is not required.

You apparently have an extension of stay based upon attending school you obtained at an immigration office not a visa.

Where are going for your non-o visa? What will it be based upon?

Nong Khai was the only crossing that required your extension to be canceled before leaving the country. There have been reports that they are no longer requesting that. Just take the letter from the school with you that states your studies ended on or after the day you leave the country in case they do ask for it.

Non o is for marriage and then i want to get work permit. I will go to vientaine. Work was telling me to get tourist visa but i think after three years of ed visa i will have ptoblems. I am legally married to my wife and have paper work for that. If i do get work permit and work cancels it then apparently i can stay in the country on my non o. Are there different non o visas?

You can get a work permit and work with a non-o visa or an extension of stay based upon marriage to a Thai.

Do you have the financial proof to apply for an extension of stay based upon marriage that is 400k baht or 40k baht income. If your income from working will be 40k baht or more you can use it to apply for the extension but you will need 2 months of tax payments when you apply for it.

If you are intending to apply for an extension based upon working there are several offices that will not do it if you have a non-o visa entry.

I assume you are only planning on getting a single entry non-o visa in Vientiane since they do not do multiple entry visas.

A non-o visa can be based upon more than just marriage (being over 50, volunteer, dependent and etc).
