dcsw53
Hong Kong has its own stunning device it uses on tourists. It's called the hotel bill, I've seen people collapse when they get it.

Misterwhisper
If a certain Hong Kong-based press photographer was not allowed to bring a bulletproof vest into Thailand because they are regarded as "illegal weapons" and was treated like a common criminal, I guess this warning is only fair and square. Besides, who in their right mind takes a stun gun (or taser or whatever you want to call it) on a visit to another country? Not to mention revolvers or pistols... Gonsalviz
You can buy them in the street markets. Legal or not?
Nice Boyd
You can buy them in the street markets. Legal or not? 100 baht fine, I believe, I carry one for soi dogs, not to hurt the dog, they run from the noise, a great deterrent .
Sam Jones
Aren't they illegal in Thailand too? Many things are, but.......... Agree ... With an inactive policeforce in Thailand its basicly lawless and total anarchy ... Yesterday I saw a reackless (and driunk ?) driver knock down a bike with a policeman standing opposite in front his little AC-house on a corner - he didnt do anything

EnglishJohn
Apparently you are allowed to take a gun with you as long as the police can't explicitly find evidence that you did it deliberately - so just use the same excuse. That's why they didn't take any action against Thaksin's chum the ex-police chief. And these jokers are why many of us have these stun-guns in the first place. They get away with making it up as they go along.
nottocus
Why would anyone bring a stun device to HK? It's not like it's dangerous.

DDbkh
Why would anyone bring a stun device to HK? It's not like it's dangerous. They probably had to meet a certain Thai fugitive who often hangs out there; maybe his local cronies are not very pleasant so people think they need protection. speedtripler
I bring or buy a folding knife in foreign city's too... Its just a precaution If I don't need it I won't use it... But it's a nice deterrent and self defence weapon.. Especially if you have to deal with a group Most people will think twice before committing a crime against someone if they are likely to get stabbed for it

speedtripler
Why would any one carry that while in overseas ??? Some people maybe cash heavy etc and worried about being robbed Gamblers going to or coming from casinos often have large amounts (I know 1 pro poker player who won a pile of cash at macau and nearly couldn't bring it back through airport security because they thought it was drug money) , diamond or gem dealers, expensive jewellery, businessmen, a woman who's been raped before... etc or anyone else just worried about their safety might carry one It doesn't necessarily mean if someone has a stunner they're carrying it with malicious intentions although at least hk are making the law clear unlike Thailand where laws remain negotiable if you have money or friends etc...
