Lite Beer
UTCC: Economic pickup likely to begin late this yearBANGKOK, 11 October 2015 (NNT) - The Center for Economic and Business Forecasting of the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC) has predicted that an economic upturn would be noticeable late this year.Thanawan Polvichai, Director of the Centre for Economic and Business Forecasting said the economic recovery was attributed to the government’s economic stimulus measures such as the allocation of a five million baht fund to each district, the support for small-scale investments and the tourism promotion campaigns. These schemes are expected to generate 50-70 billion baht in circulation between October and November. As for the 13-21 October vegan festival, the center estimated that spending during this period would rise slightly by 2.9 percent as the public were more careful with their money. The festival would create 41 billion baht in circulation.Meanwhile, foreign countries are likely to experience an economic slowdown despite their ongoing economic stimulus measures except the USA. The International Monetary Fund and the World Bank predicted that the global economic growth would drop below their estimate. -- NNT 2015-10-

Oziex1
Once they lay eyes on the tourism promotions, to kick the economic blues the good foreign folk are going to take a holiday to Thailand. I'm on my way !
Always18
"An economic upturn" in Thailand - meanwhile, an "economic slowdown" in "foreign countries"................... A combination of wishful thinking, forecasting claptrap and just plain old nationalistic cobblers.

Thunder26
What about the thousands of people losing their jobs as a lay off in Thailand at the moment? I don't see how this can be an economic pick up for the simple folk.

waldroj
In the well-known quote (often attributed to Mark Twain), "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." Whilst Mark Twain never managed to visit Thailand, had he have done so, he may well have modified this quote to just “lies, and damned lies”. Especially if he were to have seen the reporting coming from the National News Bureau of Thailand! As a newspaper correspondent himself, I’m sure he would have been horrified by the quality of NNT articles. Even if you put the “Statistics” back in, the NNT repeatedly demonstrates an amazing consistency in providing erroneous propaganda that is nothing more than sugar-coated nonsense and outright misinformation. If you want to argue they are just the mouthpiece for the Government Public Relations Department, that still does not excuse what is nothing more than the deliberate deception of the citizens of Thailand by their government, through NNT. It will be very interesting to see how they report the situation should the worsening drought achieve the full impact predicted by foreign observers. Similarly, how will they continue to present the deteriorating relationship between the EU and Thailand over human rights and fishing violations? Some insight may come from how NNT prosaically reported the purchase of submarines (without any argument for the reason or its impact): http://thainews.prd.go.th/website_en/news/news_detail/WNPOL5807300010003 http://thainews.prd.go.th/website_en/news/news_detail/WNPOL5810070010001
