Just outside Kampot near Naklua, Pattaya.?

Just an add on, being a Sweaty I love mince and tatties and I really like the taste of Kampot pepper in the mince. Smell is also really nice while it's cooking.

Hmmm. You've made me curious now. I want to try it.

I'm certain it's not available in my city, where ordinary prik Tai dam grows everywhere.

I will be following this thread to see where I can get some.

If you're just outside kampot, why do you need to know where to get it?

I would imagine it's available almost anywhere in Cambodia. For sure in Sihanoukville. A friend got me some when she went to Cambodia and I don't think she went all the way to Kampot.

Can someone tell how distinguish Kampot pepper from the fresh peppercorns for sale at the local produce market?

It has a mixture of colours depending on how and when harvested. It's also got a very distinctive smell, sort of Jasmine like scent. Best I can do to describe it.

Google Sothy's pepper farm Kampot.

Just outside Kampot near Naklua, Pattaya.

Have you tried Villa? They do a lot of fancy imported foodstuffs that I rarely see elsewhere. Also the basement supermarket of Central.

Genuine KamPot pepper is actually fairly scarce. The Khmer Rouge destroyed most of the vines because they considered them a colonial legacy.

There have been many attempts to re-establish the crop but it is difficult and takes a lot of time. The best pepper was produced my very mature plants and few of those survived. The best place to get it is in Kampot. Restaurants there make the most amazing pepper crab you'll ever eat.

Beware of vendors in Phnom Penh markets claiming to sell it...lots of phony and blended stuff.

I have bought it in kampot, but it was sold by bulk in the crab market restaurant area of kep.

Truly one of the most amazing dishes I have ever had. Kampot pepper crab

The market in Snookyville has it for sale. If you know the taste, it is quite distinctive.

There was a place on southern side of King Power on Suk, which had it for sale about a year ago. Called Taste of Italy or something like that. The price was expensive, over 100 USD per kg. In Snooky it was 20.

Confused ? ...... are we talking about availability in Pattaya here ?

If so, then I found some at Aroy Italy on the Sukhumvit, but it was several years ago.

Have also bought at Poi Pet while doing a Visa Run before.
