BANGKOK: -- The executives of Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) will face legal actions if it was found out that they misused their spending, warned Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha on Wednesday.

He said that ThaiHealth had spent its fund far beyond the scope of health promotion which might not be considered as wrong because of the vague spending guidelines which need to be revised so that its main job which is health promotion could proceed.

The audit panel of the National Council for Peace and Order has been tasked to examine the spending of all Funds, including ThaiHealth, to make sure that they were used properly.

Management-wise, the prime minister said that executives who under-performed or mismanaged their spending budget would be axed or taken to the court. However, he insisted that he or the audit panel would not be responsible for making the decisions.

Justice Minister Paiboon Koomchaya, meanwhile, said he would invite ThaiHealth executives for discussion on the foundation’s spending. ThaiHealth has insisted its spendings were proper.

ThaiHealth is funded by earmarked taxes from liquor and cigarette manufacturers.

Accountability for use of public funds is important.

Can the audit panel of the National Council for Peace and Order also give the public a detailed breakdown of all the funds the NCPO and its government have spent over the last 17 months?

Hope that any recommendations the audit panel makes when they find corruption are followed.

Hmm should that be "if they find corruption?"

Nah....
