Overstay fine-where to pay?

Featured Replies

Is there a difference between paying for overstay at either of the airports in Bangkok or Chiang Mai?

Thanks.

If you are flying from Chiang Mai on an internal flight to Bangkok and exiting Thailand on an international flight from Bangkok, the overstay fine will be paid when you exit passport control in Bangkok. Moving to the visas section.

As already said ...............

However, the overstay fine is 500 Bht/day no matter where the Kingdom is exited.

Not completely true.. If through ticketed and not leaving the airport Passport and Customs are done entirely at ChiangMai.

To clarify-I'd prefer to depart from CM on a flight to PP that does make a stop in BKK. My question is-will I be allowed to board and fly out of CM with an outstanding overstay fine or will that be handled in CM before flying?

Thanks again.

If you are taking an International flight from CM the overstay (500 Bht/day) will be dealt with by the CM immigration officers.

Thanks for the input. Having read a lot in this forum, it seems as though Phnom Penh may not be as strong an option as Savannaket for a second double entry tourist visa. Is this true? Also, as I'm over 40 days, I'll be paying the full 20K at immigration. Can that be done at Mukdahan before entering Laos?

Much appreciated!

You will not get a 2 entry tourist visa in Phnom Penh. They will only do a single entry visa. Only Vientiane and Savannakhet will issue a 2 entry tourist visa.

Whether you will have a problem at Mukdahan will depend upon how long your overstay is for. There was a report of a person that had several months being turned away.

Well, that is a definite concern as I clearly am in that category. It looks like I'll stick with Plan A-Chiang Mai to Bangkok, Bangkok to PP for a single entry. Have there been any reports of overstayers being turned away at CNX? Thanks for the heads-up Ubonjoe, your advice is consistently top-notch.

Plan B could be Nok Air fly/ride service from CM to Vientiane visa Udon Thain. The Nong Khai will allow lengthy over stayers to leave.

I will look into that today. Is Vientiane still issuing double entries? This will be my second tourist visa, my first was issued in Seoul. I'm a U.S. citizen, retired, but not yet 50 years old. Stuck in no man's land visa-wise for now.

As I wrote in an earlier post Vientiane will do a 2 entry visa. You will have no problem getting a tourist visa there. They only look for previous back to back tourist visas issued by them.

Got it. Thanks for the clarification. I'm checking on Plan B with Nok Air but their Fly N Ride option is down. I'll be sure to update.

Much appreciated.
