Jonathan Fairfield Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 House officials plan to wear black on Monday to protest the NCPO’s orderBANGKOK:-- Parliament officials plan to wear black on Monday to protest against the appointment of an “outsider” to succeed their boss who was removed by the National Council for Peace and Order. Officials of the office of the House secretary-general started lobbying their colleagues through the social media to wear black on Monday shortly after Mr Chare Chanpruang, the House secretary-general, was transferred to an inactive post in the Prime Minister’s Office by an order of the NCPO chief General Prayut Chan-ocha.The order also appointed Mr Nut Phasuk, a legal advisor at the office of the Senate secretary-general, to replace Mr Chare at the office of the House secretary-general.The disgruntled House officials were reported to have said that they were not satisfied with Mr Nut’s appointment because he was considered as an outsider and, above all, he still has seven years to serve in the service before his retirement.Mr Nut’s appointment, they argued, will block the career path of several senior officials at the office of the House secretary-general. selftaopath Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 If this change is to diminish nepotism, or place the most qualified individual in said position I applaud the decision. Here this might be a strange concept.
NongKhaiKid Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 " ... will block the career path of several senior officers... " Would that be the automatic path rather than one based on ability, suitability and merit ?
RIJoe Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Won't that be the equivalent of the 3-finger salute that is outlawed?
chainarong Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 There is possible a notice of tradition that has now been interfered with , but as stated by Selfaopath and I endorse , if this ensures a better out comes or stops nepotism that's fine , they also have stifled career prospects, that is in tradition , so all in all Prayut- O lot isn't a happy lot I am all for the wearing of black , co-operation in this area is vital to the smooth running of the house , throwing press releases in the bin would be an another option.
billd766 Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 " ... will block the career path of several senior officers... " Would that be the automatic path rather than one based on ability, suitability and merit ? In the British civil service it used to be referred to as "Buggins turn next". Buggins' turn ˈbʌɡɪnz/ noun Britishinformal noun: Buggins' turn; plural noun: Buggins' turns a system by which appointments or awards are made in rotation rather than by merit. Origin early 20th century: from Buggins, used to represent a typical surname. Translate buggins turn to Thai buggins เปิด
speedtripler Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 This has probably thrown a right spanner in the works-everyone below the old chief has likely already bought their next promotions It's a step down for all of them to put a new guy on the top.... I love it
slapout Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 It is a real pain to be appraisred on productibity, working well with others, etc instead of senority date of appointment / hire. Especially to the likes of those which has been the norm so apparent to the public in the past.
Jonmarleesco Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 'The disgruntled House officials were reported to have said that they were not satisfied with Mr Nut’s appointment because ... he still has seven years to serve in the service before his retirement.' TiT! Age before beauty ... or ability.
Alwyn Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Interesting; has anybody thought that instead of ridding bureaucracy of nepotism this might be in itself nepotism? Maybe this is just another buddy/lackey of the fearless one.
Srikcir Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 "Parliament officials plan to wear black on Monday to protest against the appointment of an “outsider” to succeed their boss who was removed by the National Council for Peace and Order." Such a funny compaint - all of the NCPO-appointed NLA members are "outsiders." You didn't see them complain when the Thai people were not allowed to vote for Parliament representation.
JAG Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 " ... will block the career path of several senior officers... " Would that be the automatic path rather than one based on ability, suitability and merit ? I don't think that career paths of senior officers, military, police or civil service have very much to do with ability, suitability or merit.

Just to be sure I will wear any colour but black on Monday. Edited October 17, 2015 by Bluespunk
