Hi, I am in the process of filling out the form AN...question 6.1 Have you been issued with a BRP with a previous application for leave.I ticked yes and then filled out the info from 6.2-7. I ticked yes BRP enclosed on 6.7. My question is do I need to answer 6.12-6.14? as I assume that the BRP card which is enclosed should be sufficient. Also if I need to fill in 6.12-4 with the info, I assume again ( a lot of assuming here lol) that 6.16-7 don't need filling in.

Ok any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Nick

Yes, you should, or rather the applicant should, answer questions 6.12, 6.13, 6.14, 6.16 and 6.17 and all others, unless the form tells you to skip them.

The purpose of all this is to ensure that the applicant is the same as on previous visa and LTR applications; i.e. to prevent fraud and deception.

It does cost a bit extra, but I advise applying via the Nationality Checking Service.

The local authority will ensure that your form is correctly completed, and they will copy your documents and return them to you. They will ensure that your application is validly submitted and the requirements for citizenship are met. They will not give you nationality advice.

There is no set fee for this service, each local authority is allowed to set their own; so you should check. You do not have to use the one where you live; indeed, not all offer this service.

I would second the NCS! My wife used it for her naturalisation and checked everything thoroughly. Sister in law did not turn up with all the required documents so they gave good advice on what was required (plus a little that was not required but was helpful) and made a further appointment the next week without extra charge.

They copy key documents so they stay with the applicant.

Home Office were not as efficient, just taking her daughters fees not both! I am sure it will delay the application by a further few months as it goes back into the pile.

We utilised the services of NCS and all was going well until the registrar noticed that I hadn't dated the cheque.

She made two comments - that my handwriting was worthy of a registrar and also that she had earned the fee for picking up the omission on the cheque. Fair play, as she was spot on. Very friendly and affable service but also very professional.

The NCS fee in Maidstone at that time was £65. Worth every penny to retain possession of my wife's Thai passport.

Hi many thanks for all the replies, I do have a phone number of a local-ish NCS. I will give them a call tomorrow to arrange an appointment Now the next hurdle is trying to find a referee of a professional standing who has known Noi for 3 years. They don't make things easy do they lol.

Cheers guys

That's always a tricky one, Nick.

I got my wife straight in to work in a charity shop on arrival in the UK. She became very good friends with the manageress and never lost contact with her once she secured full time employment.

Even now, we drop by on her regularly and always buy her a little present on our trips abroad. She really is a diamond.

She signed as professional referee on both citizenship and British passport applications and both went without a hitch.

GPs are another option. Not much they won't do for a few quid.

We've sorted it mate, one of the wifes friends husbands is a teacher (un be known to me lol) anyway he signed it. I did try our local doctors but they don't do it anymore but no problem now anyway. Also we are booked in at an NCS on the 5th nov and according to them (as they checked whilst i was on the phone with them) the deadline is actually 11th Nov not the 5th....(whether that is just for NCS services I don't know but I did ask them to confirm with me 3 times during the conversation that the deadline was the 11th and they said yes the new rules apply from the 12th Nov. So hopefully we are good to go :)

Thanks everyone for your help.

Regards

Just when you think things are sorted another hurdle arises lol. As you know you have to state how many days you've had out of the country, I've tallied it all up and she has had 45 days in the last 3 years so no problem there. The new sticking point is her passport hasn't been stamped on 2 out of the 3 holidays for entry to Thailand, They could well have stamped the arrival card (but they have long since been binned) so for anyone else applying for citizenship DON'T BIN ANYTHING!. Anyway thankfully she has a skywards card and the two flights which are missing in her passport are on the statement on the skywards site....so I've been advised by emerates to go to the ticketing office and ask them to verify and stamp the statement...........so hopefully now everything is water tight. I'll be glad when this is sorted what bit of hair I've got left isn't going to last long at this rate lol laugh.png

Did you not receive e-tickets / flight itineraries by email for these trips, Nick?

I printed out and submitted the e-tickets / flight itineraries emails and left it at that. Totalled about eight return flights. Didn't have them verified by the travel agent or airline. Wouldn't do any harm but not entirely certain it's necessary.

Also, if you haven't already noticed, make sure that your wife was physically present in the UK on the day three years prior to the date of the application. In this instance, that will be the day of your NCS appointment.

Hi wooloomooloo, yes Noi was present in the UK 3 years prior to the 5th Nov so all is good in that respect. We went to the ticketing office in Birmingham airport as instructed by the guy I spoke with on the phone Emirates call.It turned out to be a wasted journey as he wasn't able to verify the flights because it needs to be on official Emirates letter headed paper. Anyway he gave me an email address to send the request off too with copies of Noi's passport etc attatched. He said it may take 48hrs to 2 weeks to sort depending how busy they are. I did specify on the email that we needed the verification back before the 5th Nov so hopefully they will come good before then. Regarding e tickets I did have them, but silly me likes to delete old emails. Serves me right hey lol.

Ok so have to wait and see what happens now.

Cheers

Nick
