Govt. ensures public of emergency medical service via hotline 1669

BANGKOK, 19 October 2015 (NNT) - Minister of Public Health M.D.Piyasakol Sakolsattayathon has confirmed the 1669 medical emergency hotline is ready to provide emergency medical service for people across the country.

The minister on Sunday said the 1669 hotline had service units across the country with emergency transport by land, air and water without fee. The hotline’s adviser would offer basic first-aid instructions, ask the caller questions to assess the symptoms and direct the patient to a proper hospital, said the minister.

M.D.Piyasakol also called on motorists to give way to an ambulance so that the patient would receive treatments in time.

The hotline has provided service for 1.36 million times a year over the past three years with a tendency to increase. It has helped decrease injuries from accidents by 200,000 people a year.

Give way to ambulances - make it mandatory.

I try as a rule not to get too wound up by things to do with driving here, but idiots blocking ambulances ( or indeed those "rescue service" pick ups) really do annoy.

Funny you should say that. A few years ago when I was living outside of Pattaya on the dark side, coming from Pattaya and just come through the lights at North road. An ambulance was trying to make a turn to get to Bangkok Pattaya hospital. Light and sirens going. Not one Thai stopped to let the ambulance through. I did and an a/hole behind me started beeping his horn. I ignored him and the ambulance made the turn.

Thai people need to learn you give give way to Ambulances, Police and Fire tenders, one day these may be needed for one of their family members were seconds count.

It is a good thought but you can't even get through with a motorbike, so an ambulance stands little chance in the City.

Unmarked junctions that get completely blocked by idiots who get stuck in what I call 'the yellow box' area are my particular aggravation, because I have one nearby to get through most days.

A million?

Since we're talking about free medical treatment you can't mean the USA, so one presumes your country is in Europe.

A million? I'm sure that the rest of us Europeans would have noticed.

Since the most populous country in Europe is Germany (82.6 million) that means that at least 1,21 % of the population are Thais. With the less populous countries that percentage increases.

As I said, I'm sure we would have notice!

When I did the computer test for my Thai licence a few years ago I selected "pull over to the left". The correct answer was "stop" , (and hold up everything including the ambulance).

He could easily have been talking about the US, where emergency room medical treatment is, in fact, given without any question made as to the ability to pay. Which is why emergency rooms are also often crowded with people with minor ailments seeking "free" medical care. This is not to mention the plethora of free medical clinics and public welfare going to immigrants in the country.
