Popular Post monk213 Posted October 19, 2015 Popular Post Share Posted October 19, 2015 I cancelled my ED visa to start a tourist visa for a change, I may change schools down the line, anyway that is going off topic already. I started off in Hua Hin where I reside and took the yellow bus all the way too Mukdahan, no complaints whatsoever despite a few bad reviews online. I bought a VIP seat for 810 baht and tramada was 700 or so baht. I wanted the leg room We go to Mukdahan at around 10am and left Hua Hin at 5pm. From there we took a tuktuk that was 200baht and the immigration process was the easiest I have encountered, and in 5 years as a late 20s guy I have had my fair share of issues. She was a very friendly driver and this was my second time in Laos, my first was Vientiane and both places I find the people to be generally kinder and lighthearted. We went to a hotel right on the Mekong called Inthavilla, it is maybe one of the most expensive in the area but it is worth it imo. The rooms are fairly large and they have ones for 700baht a night or 600. They have a TV, wifi (which can be a bit slow) food is ok, but the best part it is so so quiet as there are few people. Also it is on the Mekong and the views are great with tables next to it to eat at night or dat, but the night has lovely lightning, and of course beer lao The staff here are VERY helpful and friendly, and I liked speaking in my Thai tongue with a Lao twang haha. The next day I went to the consulate which is not hard to find. I rented a bike for 300baht a day for 3 days as I like to explore. Went to the consulate at 8.30 but opens at 9. They have a photocopy section and forms right next to it for you to use. Once in it was fairly quick to process, there were maybe 20 of us and it took 30 minutes max. After that I went a bit further out of town to 'House Lao' - here is a link a but ithttp://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Review-g811038-d7929785-Reviews-Lao_House_Shopping_Center-Savannakhet_Savannakhet_Province.htmlwhich has great coffee and food, also next to that is a shop with many hand crafted items and other purchasable things, I highly recommend. There is a casino known as Casino Vegas. It is really quite fun and not too far either. If you follow the road the consulate is on (which really is just a straight road all the way) you will eventually come to a round-about, go straight on from there and about 1km turn left, then 2km down that road you cannot miss it on the right.There really is not much to do here, it is a sleepy town but you can find little gems here and there. That night we went to a kind of market place if you can call it that. It was small and had stalls, but also a couple of restaurants and a cafe that served food at night. I was being a fatty and ate at both places whereas my girlfriend just at one. I do not seem to put on weight luckily Anyway the cafe is called 'Lins Cafe' and I forget the name of the restaurant I went to before (picture of the burger below). Back at the hotel and more beer lao that night.Next day went to pick up the passport and visa no issues whatsoever, it was 2,000 baht for a double entry tourist visa. I am wiring this report as of this point, I may go and explore more of this sleepy town or further as I have a Laos visa on arrival so why not. To summarise this was much easier than Vientiane imo and a lot more laid back, even though Vientiane is pretty chilled anyway. Can't wait for the upcoming holiday semi open place, you mean the hotel or the place I had the thai food? I love this hotel because it is so quiet and it is wooden, no concrete jungle style places. When do you plan to come here and have you been before? Best visa run I have ever done and I have been to malaysia, Ranong and Vientiane. I also have a few more pics, one sec... I have tried back and standard beer lao before, but first time I had seen the gold lao this time around. Still prefer the black though. It is after the consulate on the right before the round about and before the Casio. I am on AIS too and it did work for a couple of days but then I switched to their wifi which is mostly fine. The rooms are good tbh, all have air con, comfortable beds, really friendly service and it is such a quite atmosphere which I like the most about a hotel. Thanks again Hey Just go to your school and say you need to cancel your ED visa and they will make a form for you, check the passport number and your name on the form. take that plus 2 passport pics that is all. You do not need to stay in Laos for 3 days, just turn up on time at 8.30 at the consulate mon - fri )opens at 9) and then go back the next day to get your vis. On the application form simply write "double entry" or " 2 entries" The first entry allows a 60 day stay which can be extended by 30 days at an immigration office for a fee of 1900 Bht. To activate the second entry requires leaving the country , entering another country and returning BEFORE the "enter before date" which is clearly marked on the visa. 2 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It has to do that i wanted to continue thai school for a second year, but the first school is at 60 km from my new city... I did not even download the form and people rarely do. Right next to the consulate there is a stall that has a photoshopy machine for passports and also forms to fill out, they help too if you need it for free. I forgot now but somewhere near the top you need to tick tourist visa 60 days x2 .. multiple entry. They will help don't worry. It is such a lax consulate. You get 60 days and then in the town you stay in Thai you can apply for a 30 day extension for 1,900 baht, then it the double entry you do the same process again. My all time fav dish ever since I came here 5 years ago, gang know wan For the record, the casino is named Savan Vegas and the hotel rooms are quite comfortable, and when you check in they give you vouchers for the hotel buffet so all your meals are included in the cost of the room. A Thai guy named Dean runs the front desk and rooms division. He is from Khon Kaen originally and very helpful. There are a couple of overnight buses from Mochit in Bangkok to Mukdahan, Sahapan Tour 029363690 and Bus 999 028721777. From the Mukdahan bus station you can catch a Tuk Tuk or look a Savan Vegas van at about 7 am. You should actually call Savan Vegas and reserve in advance so they are certain to be looking for you at the bus station. Even if you miss the Savan Vegas van, they have a hospitality center on the left at the entrance to the immigration area before crossing the bridge. The folks there will fill out your immigration forms and put you in a shuttle and escort you through the border and immigration and take you all the way to the casino hotel. There is also a 5 am morning bus from Khon Kaen that waits at immigration and then takes you all the way to the Savanakhet bus station.
