Red faces in Moscow after France blamed for Swiss fighter jet incident with Russian politician

606x341_315499.jpg

MOSCOW: -- Russia initially summoned the French ambassador to complain that a private plane carrying the Speaker of the lower house of parliament had been involved in a “dangerous incident” with a fighter jet over Switzerland.

Then the Swiss revealed it was one of their aircraft, and that it conducted a routine identification check on the Geneva-bound jet in Swiss air space.

Moscow, which had threatened not to use France as a venue for international meetings in
retaliation, later apologised for the mistake.

Sergei Naryshkin, an ally of President Vladimir Putin, was on his way to an international meeting of parliamentarians.

There are no more politicians in Russia, 100% of the parliament consists of Putin's puppets. And no they are not allowed to be ashamed of anything these days, so a red face is a thing from another world as well.

Remembers me very much on Thailand but looking at Russia in Syria I am looking forward for a cleanup.

Have people suddenly forgotten about the USS Vincennes ? I know it was way back in 1988 but such short memories ? whistling.gif

That was in an active war zone, and the ship was under attack by Iranian gunboats at the time, according to the captain.

Hardly the same as cruising through the Swiss Alps.

Yes, not the same, but also a big mistake.

More understandable -- when ships from a country are attacking you, and an unidentified airplane from the direction of that country is heading your way, well, the stress builds, and as we know, heightened stress leads to lower quality decisions.

(Edited for clarity).

So you are saying that a state of the art warship can't distinguish between an F17 fighter jet and a passenger airline on a routine flight and that posed no actual threat to the ship so it was an accident ?

Of course it can. But stress, especially at the level when you are under physical attack, has devastating effects on people's rational decision making.

It's a pity we can't put you on the Vincennes, Iranian gunboats firing machine guns at you, and see how you would have handled a mysterious radar plot, an aircraft on its way from Iran, which didn't answer your contacts on either civilian or military frequencies. The lives of 400 of your fellow crew members may depend on you.

They made a mistake, but an understandable one.

Do you have proof of these accusations? If so, please forward them to Nato...Malaysia etc...

Sorry my mistake, i thought you referred to flight MH 17.

Well, now that you mention it , they never apologized or admitted responsibility for that disaster either:

Unlike some others , at least Russia was "man "

enough to admit it's mistake and apologise.

Too bad they never apologized for downing a Korean Airlines Flight 007, a 747-230B that they thought was a fighter jet, a mistake that killed 269 passengers and crew

As well as hiding the flight recorders in a safe for years to cover it up.
