Hi all,

I arrive in Samui tomorrow, and need to have a small electronic part shipped to me there. I have done google and topic searches and can find no info on fedex/DHL, or UPS office locations on the island. Does anyone know if they can deliver to the island, either to our address there or to a branch? Thank you :o

Just had something forwarded to me via DHL.There is a branch on the island, same as UPS.

Better make sure it's prepaid.......

I had a VERY nasty problem with UPS (not prepaid) 2 years ago. I had to pay cash, which I did.

Later UPS invoiced me again. :D

It appeared (after a long search and me not paying again of course) that the guy working there put the money in his own pocket... :o

I've had a lot of experience shipping from the USA to here. Last Christmas both my mother and father sent me a package. If the package is to big they only deliver a card stating you have a package and you must go pick it up. If you know you have a package coming just check in with them as they do a good job of logging incoming packages. So after about 7 weeks I got the package from my mother. I never did receive the package from my father. I dont think it made it to Samui.

A few months ago my mother shipped me a package via UPS. What a mistake!!!!!!! It made it here in about 5 days but the price was out of control. She had to pay $100 to ship and then I had to pay 3000 baht to customs! So between my mother and I we paid about $175 for her ship me 2 pair of shoes and some underwear. I don't recommend UPS unless it is ultra important.

Also, after the UPS incident, my mother sent me another package via ground. It took almost 8 weeks to get here. After about the 4th week I was going crazy everyday looking for it. I had given up on it but decided to try one more time and then it was here!

So forget UPS and ground. She is about to send me another package and we are going to try air mail. I think it will be a lot faster and only a little more expensive than ground. If the sender has to write the worth of the articles inside the package do not place a high number there in case customs taxes you as that will be what they base it on.

Well, it depends a bit.

My previous experience was on Samui (cash payment).

But, today (mondaymorning 9.15AM) I received a parcel (by UPS :o ) in Europe from California/USA; ordered online on last Thursday-evening; pre-paid delivery.

So, that's real fast.

But I also had to pay 19% VAT taxes, but that's according to the invoice and has nothing to do with UPS; they're obliged to do so.

But in your case I would be careful with airmail to Thailand...the parcel might get lost if it's not registered.

My understanding is that as soon as there are 2 or more identical items in a package, Thai customs will charge import duty.

I have used airmail fom the states and europe and never had any problems or duty to pay, mostly for birthday presents etc.

They (customs) based the amount I had to pay on what my mother paid to ship. Then they added VAT and they used a very liberal exchange so that they could get more money. They had no idea what was in the package. I understand the need for paying a duty but the way they go about it is a sham.

In that case I have no understanding of customs and excsise in this country and can only presume that they make it up as they go along :o

Something just occured to me, If I am not mistaken customs woud know what was in the package as your mother would have had to fill in a standard customs declaration form describibg the contents of the package and the value of goods therein, before UPS would agree to ship to you. :o

We use UPS all the time and have always had good service.

I hear good reports about FEDEX too, but be careful with DHL. They have a habit of using EMS from Bangkok to Samui which is hardly the courier service you paid for. I have had a number of packages from clients arrive EMS when dispatched with DHL.

I just checked with my wife about our parcel. This is how it arrived via EMS & it arrived 5days late.So I do apologise & retract my reccomendation of DHL.

According to this ,on page 3 you can import narcotics or drugs (same as medicine if being used for medical purposes ) ?????????????? :D

Some of these imports are only applicable to certain types of Visas or Thai nationals returning home.
