Festivities in Thailand

Featured Replies

I see many times pictures of a festivity in Thailand.
But when I see the pictures, the festivity is already over.

I have been looking for a festivity calendar, even visited the Tourist Police and the TAT Office, but all they could provide were a few old flyers about the Elephant festival in Surin and the Vegetarian festival in Phuket.

Does anyone here know if such a calendar exists and where to get it?

TIA.

even though there is a well funded tourist dept. of the govt.rolleyes.gif

it is still a bit of a challenge to keep up on all the events. Best to look at it as a challenge and a game. Check out the local papers and look for posters and banners, take a photo and later ask someone to translate. Google the different provinces and read about them on wikipedia, they usually list what festivals the region is know for, Many events are based on the lunar calander. Loei ghost fest, Isaan rocket madness and more.

.... so no, I don't think there is a single source for all you seek except maybe TVF and the various subforums.thumbsup.gif

Have a look at this website: http://www.boomboomme.com/resources/holidays/thailand/

I find it useful for know when Banks, the Government and Bars are due to close. You can also look at the ThaiVisa calendar here: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/files/file/700-thaivisa-calender-20152558/

In the UK, I find this site useful as events usually coincide with those in Thailand: http://www.verythai.co.uk/events.html

Two years ago, on the basis of an orchid festival in Nakon Ratchisima, I hired a large taxi bus to take my wife and family there. But on the television, they had advertised the wrong date, it was one month later. But my new family loved it, they visited an important shrine. Most had never seen a large city. And on the way back we visited and bought the orchids on the side of the road. Someone will make a fortune if they can set up a calendar. Might look into it.

A national festivities calendar sounds like a good idea for TVF. I nice way to plan for a short holiday, or know when it is a good time to stay off the road.

I once got stuck in Khon Kaen for a few days on a trip back from Lao because it was Father's Day and impossible to buy a bus ticket to Bkk.
