October 2, 200619 yr I was perusing the Forum rules, when I came accross this 11) We ask you use discretion when using blind references in any post or signature. Not all users of thaivisa.com are experienced enough to understand where these links may point. What is a "blind reference" Many thanks
October 2, 200619 yr My guess is posting references in a thread concerning another thread without actually posting the link to the referred thread. Guardian
October 2, 200619 yr I think not only is it referencing to other threads but also to external sources like say a newspaper or maybe a definition from wikipedia. So for example you copy and paste an article but then don't acknowledge where you got it from
October 3, 200619 yr A blind reference is like this. A clickable link or reference that refers you to another web page. In the example given above, the link takes you to ThaiVisa's Rules. It could quite easily have taken you to another website... one that might contain objectionable material. That's why we ask you to use discretion when posting them. Taoism: shit happens Buddhism: if shit happens, it isn't really shit Islam: if shit happens, it is the will of Allah Catholicism: if shit happens, you deserve it Judaism: why does this shit always happen to us? Atheism: I don't believe this shit

Usually I make the title of the blind link obvious as to what it is or identify where it is going to in the post. Is this the appropriate way to do it?

The example provided above was a blind reference... the example below is a more appropriate way to provide a link. Forum Rules. Or you could make the title of the link the same as the link itself... http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?act=boardrules Either way... the reader has a clear idea of where the link will take them, and can make an informed choice.
