Two shoplifters caught at Tesco-Lotus in North Pattaya



PATTAYA: -- Two broke 18 year olds who wanted to eat at a Barbecue Buffet but had no money to go, decided to steal food and create their own make-shift Buffet restaurant without paying for the food.

Khun Chet aged 39, is a Security Guard at the North Pattaya branch of Tesco-Lotus and late on Saturday Night he was watching two young women who appeared to be shopping for many items including food and clothes but when the pair arrived at one of the Checkout counters they only had a few items left and after paying for them were stopped and searched.

A total of 16 food and clothing items were found with a combined value of 3,130 Baht. The pair had concealed the items and attempted to leave the store without making any effort to pay for them.

gives a new meaning to Miss Piggy's, '' Don't eat more than you can lift''. What's wrong with fat shaming ? many people have taken to slimming down after being fat shamed. In America it was found that even obese people aren't really aware of how fat they are, a group made wire outlines of the body profile of obese volunteers who were then so shocked that they started a slimming course. Tip toeing around the problem to be PC doesn't help anyone, pointing out to them that they look disgusting helps.

Wow the convoluted logic of some posters in their race to make a "testimony to the ineptness of Thais " based on some random incident is truly mind-boggling.

Catching a couple of shoplifters probably doesn't qualify as newsworthy, but to deduce from this one article that most shoplifters must escape detection because you don't read about them being caught and therefore Thais must be inept is truly exceptional "thinking."

Just go into a 7/11 when it is full of school kids - the shoplifting olympics in full swing!!

In the past few months i have entered a few random 7/11's and tesco expresses where each isle had an "observer" stationed, just standing there and watching every movement of the customers.

So I have such a feeling that shoplifting is becoming a real problem currently.

I can't think of a reason for it though, since every day is announced that everything is fine and everybody happy in Thailand.

Shoplifting has become a big problem since the economy went into a downward spiral. 7/11's often have staff sitting on the floor in a key position. The 20 baht store near my place has installed cameras and a large TV monitor showing several angles.

Things are desperate when you need to steal from a 20 baht store.

Thai management is indeed generally quite inept. They seem to have no notion of checking or monitoring things.

Just look at the massive traffic jams that happen every evening tailing back from the VC Hotel up towards Pratumnak; one policeman with a whistle and a fine book could solve this problem instantly and permanently. But does it happen?

At the Airport, foreigners accused of shoplifting are locked up in a sleazy short time hotel, told they have to wait months in a Bangkok prison for a court date, then their ATM account gets drained by a police accomplice posing as an embassy official.

Then they send you on your way.

Seen in a Koh Samui supermarket.... "anyone found shoplifting will be fined 10 times of the amount"...... not sure if this would fix the problem, or if it is enforceable, but it shows there is a problem....... must be some of those plastic gangsters that are supposedly here

Around 10,000 7-11s in Thailand.

Every 7-11 shop experiences numerous shoplifters every day I suspect. Say 5. Probably a lot more.

There you go, 50,000 shoplifting incidents in just one chain.

Hundreds of thousands a day no doubt.

Shoplifting is big business across the globe, I knew a guy that was a professional shoplifter and made a lot of money.
