Prayut is serious with mafia crackdown

Featured Replies

Did anyone notice that he is trying to politicize this? And guess who he is targeting. It ain't the elites who are part of the Mafia.

Read closely: he said he wanted to crack down on local mafias. That would leave out the national mafias, such as police, military and other branches of government.

Yet another terrible piece of reporting from the broadcaster you can trust to make you laugh!

While the headline reads Prayut is serious with mafia crackdown, it appears to be nothing more than another of his unremitting diatribes against red shirt supporters.

If any proof of this was required, Prayut was reported as saying, “wrongdoing politicians should prove their innocence under the justice system, and not just plan rally to give morale support to certain politician”.

In what has almost become synonymous with Thailand under the junta, Prayut’s solution is to set up yet another committee! This one, to crackdown on so called ‘influential people’ or mafia figures, which we are told, are not his political opponents, but those bad guys using war weapons to commit crimes.

The total absurdity of this report, and of the “crackdown”, comes from the final Prayut statements, “We must not allow such weapons to fall into the wrong hands. And where did these weapons come from? It must have come from somewhere!”

Surly, these answers lie within the many military arsenals around the country.

As other TV contributors have observed in the past, it’s more like a crack up!

Just another version of the war on drugs. Nothing new here.

Really - do you think there will be summary extra judicial killings then?

I always get the impression the PM is hell bent on proving he's a good guy and perhaps he is...howver if he really wants to impress the world then get to the bottom of who actually killed the British couple. If these two Burmese guys are aquitted then he should use all his power to bring the guilty/mafia to justice....personally I thonk the 2 are guilty based on the fact they claim to have been tortured by everything from salps to dowsed in petrol..drowned.Now sexually assaulted...it will be bamboo under yhe finger nails next.

.ok maybe their lawyers are the liars but everytime the talk the method of torture changes and that puts them in a bad light imo...however lets assume a certain young man and his cronies committed the murders...

Then ypu want hit the mafia pm..nows your chance

.

We shall see - from the amount of people prosecuted, convicted and sentenced. And, most importantly, who those people are.

Or will this crackdown be as good as the one on taxi fare refusals!

That would be one for sure. He also promised the mother he would ensure justice for the Aussie lad brutally assaulted by the two Chinese-American rich kids. That case seems to have gone tits up too since daddy arrived splashing his dosh about.

Time he showed how serious he really his, by delivering not just promising.

PM clarifies his attempt to crackdown on mafias

BANGKOK, 27 October 2015 (NNT)-Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has said his attempt to crackdown on mafia is due to his concern for the safety of Thai people.

General Prayut has recently tasked Defense Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan with the task of eradicating mafias in 6 months' time; however, the Pm said there would be no need to appoint another committee to solve this issue, as police officers are already doing their job and coordinating with the National Council for Peace and Order.

They will take legal action as soon as anything illegal is found. The premier further stated that his move to keep local mafia-style figures at bay was due to their possession of war weapons. General Prayut however assured that these groups are by no means linked to any political groups.

Meanwhile, Royal Thai Police Chief Police General Chaktip Chaijinda revealed that police now have information on the mafias nationwide. Government officials will also be prosecuted if they are found to have been involved with these groups. The Police General also said he did not believe that those so-called influential figures would dare to make illegal moves as they know the government is determined to keep them under control.

What a pathetic set of comments.

Whichever side launches a crackdown, the other will try to use it for their own political game. Even when the video evidence is quite clear (like 2010), there are plenty of ignorants who will believe it simply because they want to.

The point is that he is at least trying to do something about it which is more than the dirty cronies ever did (unless you include the thousands murdered in the drugs war - how many opponents went during that one ?).

His job would be a lot easier if the tomato police were not dirty and corrupt to the core like their masters were. Did you notice how the only successful raids are by the Army ?. The cops make sure they get paid off by everyone and somehow always find an empty room ..

Thailand so corrupt, it will take decades to flush it out. This is the first time in 10 years I have seen anyone actually try and start. It's clear a large section of society don't want things to change. I expect the percentage is roughly the same as those taking dirty money and those who have to pay it.

Congratulation, John. A whole post written without calling someone stupid. I knew you had it in you!!

Unfortunately that doesn't make what you write less inane. Here is a question for you, John:

If your hero really want to improve Thailand why hasn't he made reforming the RTP a priority? He has all the tools required for the job:

- Self appointed "PM" not answering to the voters.

- Has graciously granted himself an amnesty/immunity from prosecution.

- Has heroically granted himself god like powers through article 44.

Again, why has he left reform of the police to the "next government"?

Why, John?

Wouldn't be surprised, and if you look at the military's track record neither should anyone else.

Lots of pointless comments so far, as usual. Unless you actually think the PM reads them. biggrin.png

You should know after 4000+ posts yourself, that the Thai admin doesn't take notice of the Falang posts.......so what are you going on about?............my view is that you are a Falang poster <deleted>!!

I do agree with you here yes

These Isan type thugs so called tuff guys must be squashed at all costs

They never worked a day in there lives only takers

But you must also go into pen and paper mafia. Who operate under your nose

Really don't know. Was there any official findings on the extra judiciary killings. Surayud did try take legal actions but relent due to insufficient evidence. I like you think the police had been involved in the extra judiciary killings and many die in prison or police custody. We probably will not much excess to news or information of any extra judiciary killings in this junta government.

I can see it now Prayut , all the mafia in town will soon hang their out of business signs up.

Good initiative by the PM.

Just after the Koh Tao murders Prayut said more or less the same thing about the influential people in the Samui archipelago. That was over 1 year ago, and is anyone able to provide any conclusive evidence that things have changed there in the last year? I won't be holding my breath waiting for such evidence. Check out 'Google' <http//www.nationmul..s30244060.html>)

"This concerns the murder of civilians using heavy weapons. And where did these weapons come from? It must have come from somewhere!”

That's the question, where did these weapons come from? Which Thai Institution frequently 'loses' weapons? A few years ago, was it some 500 M16s? With no investigation results? I will have to appoint a think-tank committee to hide the answer...

When he does something about the framing of the 2 innocent Burmese then I will believe about 1% of what he said. Everybody on that island knows who did what, had done it before and will again. Don't have to look far.

They will take legal action as soon as anything illegal is found.

Of course nothing illegal will ever be found!

No he is NOT. If he was serious he would be going after the biggest mafia organizations in the country... the POLICE and Military.

But that would be stepping on too many toes.

Even his own

If Prayut is serious about this particular crackdown I wonder whether he's thought through the consequences of his proposed actions? During his unelected tenure so many police and government officials have been transferred to 'inactive posts' that they are having to sit on each others' laps, due to the shortage of chairs. I think he should sort out a provision for more suitably equipped 'inactive post' accommodation before he proceeds further with this latest pipedream.

This a forum.....we all know that important people in Thailand don't give a fig for our comments.......it's not for Hi-so Thais, as it's a Thai Farang forum........

Go take a cold shower and don't make stupid comments!!!

We'll start with those with "heavy weapons" .......... should that not also read ....."and those that provided them"?

An entrenched problem, looks like remaining entrenched. Next ..........

Never before have we seen so many police being arrested and charged with crimes. Get you head out of your backside and maybe you would see that too.

Really? When have the big guys been hauled into court? You see, for some of us window dressing is not enough. For you it obviously is.

Pongpat fell from grace due to the shifting fortunes of a certain member of his family. Please don't say that's news to you!
