I have a nice tree of this fruit but never ate one. Are they really nice? My Thai friend told me he likes them and there are different variety's in chiang mai.

I also have a spare tree to trade by the way, small one. Mine are the purple colored variety.

If you are an Aussie or Floridian then you might find them in your homecountry and maybe even better variety's then thailand has.

It's a very nice tree as well.

Here you can see them, they are in Thailand and neighbouring country's. There are many variety's though and some are far better then others.

Is this what the Thais call Nam Nom. ? Used to eat loads of them as a friend had two large trees one with greenish fruits the other purple.This was more than 10 years ago and I have moved several times since then but will be up that way soon. What time of the year does it fruit may try to get some seeds or even a tree.

Anyone knows about this fruit.

It's called ม่อนไข่ or Mon Kai.

The scientific name is Pouteria campechiana.

I bought at local market at Doi Inthanon.

It tastes great, like cream cheese with fruit flavour.

In Wikipedia it says the tree flowers and bears fruit all year round.

Would be great if I could find some young tree or seeds!

That's a canistel, they are too dry for me. Maybe in a milkshake it's nice. But canistle isn't rare in Thailand so i wonder which variety they grow there at Doi Inthanon, maybe it's from abroad.

I grow the Ross sapote which is similar to canistel but more moist.

I've bought them on the market in BKK.

i have a great selection of tropical fruits growing but I wont be growing canistel or egg fruit.Tried some and were way to dry tasting for me like eating the yoke of a hard boiled egg which didn't seem right in a fruit.Maybe there are other varieties out there that taste better than the ones I had.I was told by my thai friends it was called Looktor so Mon kai is likely a local name in fact it seems it has many different names in thai when I checked it out.

Ross sapote should be a lot more moist is what i read, i have 2 tree's so i hope it's true.

I don't have facebook so i can't see what the thai are growing. I just hope it ends up on the Bangkok markets one day so i can buy it.

Growing new tropical fruit variety's should be promoted by the government. It can create a lot of jobs for the Thai and even attract tourists.

Fingerlimes cost more then 100 euro a kg in Europe, soon they will get cheaper when the Thai start exporting them. Mine grow very well.

You are very optimistic. I haven't seen any fresh fruit from Thailand in my home country Germany.

Pineapple = Costa Rica

Banana = South America

Mango = Peru, India

Sugar apple = Spain

Lime = Brazil

Pomelo = China

Etc...

I wish it would be more but I don't know the reason why they don't export more fruits...

They sell Thai mango's in Munchen is what my friend told me.

But Thai fruit is expensive compared to south america/India.

I guess most thai fruit goes to the usa or Singapore.

Mango's from Spain are also very good. But the best fruit grows in your backyard, tastes better then from any shop or market.

Dates are very expensive as well, at least some variety's are, check their price on dubai airport. I think dates can stand draught better then rice so might be a good crop for thailand. But you need male and female trees for dates.

Sapote's also can stand draught pretty good, there are many variety's of them on the world who can probably also grow in Thailand.

Here you can see what the treeshops in Indonesia are selling. I guess all of that fruit can also grow in Thailand.
