Fatalities in road accidents decline: PM

Every time a problem is highlighted in the new the PM announces a few days later that the problem has been solved or partialy so. People smuggling, slavery, air safety etc all have been solved and the people are grateful. He is a wonderful man it seems.

Yeah...bring back Chalerm the Realist.

He was man enough to admit it would take 3 months to solve anything.

Oddly enough, this week I saw 4 accidents, 1 major, 2 with a decent wrecked car and 1 motorsai scratcher...dunno about fatalities, but accidents went up...as I barely ever see more than 1 a month around Ubon. Which was kinda shocking to me, seeing how they drive on a daily basis and rarely seeing accidents, I finally felt "within logical understanding" for once...meaning, for all that crazy driving and red light running etc not seeing a ton more accidents through the weeks.

Try using your rear view mirror more......you might be surprised how many you've caused biggrin.png

Only joking.

Of course if they reported "road fatalities" the same as (most, if not all) the rest of the world - fatalities would skyrocket.

Reporting kills people????

Who would have thought?

Ban the press!!

Whoa, let's not give them any ideas.

I consder it a badge of honour that I have never seen a single one of these weekly 'chat's',even though I have been here since the coup.

It would appear I'm missing very little.

Surely you don't feel unique.

PM taking credit for reduction in road deaths doesn't need to be substantiated, just like his popularity at the U.N. doesn't need to be substantiated. He vill speak und you vill listen.

Medical people have been saving or trying to save and mend health and bodies of mankind for centuries, that were direct results of mankind inventions and addaption of what was avaliable.

Many of these inventions and addapted devices, etc were and are used to destroy health, kill, maim, cripple, etc. other humans. The vast majority of what is involved, utilized, etc in the latter, were proposed as another godsend for the inprovemrnt of mankinds life and livelyhood.

Some people and countries are trying to catch up to what is often called the civilized world by skipping the basic premise of learning crawl and to walk before you run. I see little indication thatThailand was or is ready to handle in a responsible way vehicle traffic and mobil telephone, etc nor have the ability/personel to train responsible behavior in a timely manner to those needing it most.

This is no different than any other country to 1, protect tourism, 2, protect world Face. Western Nations deal with daily murders, but in world view non of that happened.

Just quietly told media to report fewer or lower numbers. No surprise.

With AA for anyone who refused, ignored and worst of all questioned the claim.

Interesting that the General makes this announcement in direct contradiction to the WHO report released a few days before.........

Has he actually ever stepped foot on Phuket? I brace myself every time I cross the Sarasin Bridge. Phuket must surely take first prize for the most dangerous place to drive in Thailand, and those ambulance sirens have in no way dissipated.

Hardly a 'badge of honour', if you don't own a dummy box aka tv, you won't see one. I haven't either huh.png

It is possible that the number of fatalities has decreased, even if the number of collisions has remained stable or increased.

- There are fewer heavy vehicles on the road, and the number of KM traveled decreased. It is no secret that the Thai economy is in the crapper. For example, rubber and rice activity has dropped off. As fewer heavy trucks were on the road, there was less likelihood a yaba crazed driver would be running down motorcyclists and pedestrians.

- There are fewer "older" vehicles on the road than in previous years. Vehicles manufactured today, if not from China, are built to slightly better standards than a decade ago.

- Seatbelt and proper helmet use has increased.

None of these on their own makes a dent. However, a few marginal tweaks here and there and the number of fatalities could indeed have decreased.

Rubbish You support the military government. Ok. Then just say that. Don't fabricate nonsense to justify your bias or make idiotic claims.

Yes, western nations may have daily murders. They have them because there will always be a set proportion of a population with psychological illness given to violence, and there will always be a subculture who are predisposed to laziness and quick money schemes through violence. The fact is, the number of murders in western countries is nothing spectacular or in need of hushing up.

It is idiotic to claim that Australia or Canada or Austria or Denmark or Japan or Singapore or Belgium etc. as a matter of practice will cover up murders or even violent crime because they wish to protect their tourism sector and/or to protect world face. They also have tourism industries that dwarf Thailand. No matter the crisis, they keep on growing and generating profits. The reason is in part due to qualities such as professionalism, safety, integrity, reliability, value and transparency. No jet ski thugs have ever commandeered a beach in Australia. No taxi mafia has intimidated the public in Canada. No police officers force has run the local brothels, gambling dens, drug trafficking distribution in the UK. Military commanders in the west do not engage in human trafficking and the smuggling of drugs.

A joke of nature...cheers to the blog journalist of the month. Wasn't about cover up, have no direct proof & same for your arguments which are nothing more than empty words. It was a generalization. Or better a witnessed experience here & of those definitely in the U.S.. Here tragedy happens like the the BK bombing but when contacted California friends, no such thing happened. Given some news goes thru & others don't...shared alliances. Also theirs the shared lies within the media. Power, growth, wealth. No one really can say what is true or who is good, only what we witness or experience ourselves.

Dear Mr PM.

Please read the today's TV news, 4 killed and 20 injured. Maybe rethink before you talk utter bs.

Pathetic tosspot

I feel I should point out that this is the kind comment that leads to the kind of misinformation and lack of understanding that the Thai authorities are themselves guilty of as regards road safety.

Citing one incident as "evidence" that road deaths are either static or on the rise is a facile as the PM's claims unless they are backed by well-researched information......

Remember the plural of anecdote is not data.

Who needs reliable data, we have the General's word to take as gospel.
