Prawut has returned to Thailand: Chakthip
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Former police spokesman General Prawut Thavornsiri has returned to Thailand but did not show up for work Monday.

National police chief General Chakthip Chaijinda said Monday that Prawut, who was just recently replaced as spokesman for the Royal Thai Police, had called to tell him that he already came back from an overseas trip.

"He told me not to tell the media, as he came back a few days before his scheduled return on November 1," Chakthip said.

The police chief also said that Prawut did not tell him whether he wanted to resign the police force and seek an early retirement, as had been speculated.

Prawut is now a senior adviser responsible for traffic and technology affairs, according to Chakthip. He added that according to the police force's regulations, any officer who fails to show up for work for more than 15 consecutive days will be fired.

Army colonel linked to LM case
THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- THE national police chief said yesterday he was convinced an Army colonel was involved in a high-profile lese majeste case, which has seen three people arrested.

Police General Chakthip Chaijinda said investigators were gathering evidence to support their case.

"We will report it when there is clarity about this," he said, adding that the military had cooperated with police over the investigation.

However, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan yesterday dismissed speculation that an Army colonel was involved in the case, in which the suspects are accused of violating Article 112 of the Criminal Code.

"If that was the case, the relevant authorities would have reported that to me. That's because I also oversee the police force," he said.

Meanwhile, former police spokesman General Prawut Thavornsiri has returned to Thailand but did not show up for work yesterday.

Chakthip said yesterday that Prawut, who was recently replaced as spokesman for the Royal Thai Police, had called to tell him he was back from an overseas trip.

"He told me not to tell the media, as he came back a few days before his scheduled return on November 1," Chakthip said.

Prawut did not show up for work at his office at police headquarters yesterday, according to some officials at the office, who said they did not know when he would return.

His aide could be reached by phone and did not return calls from reporters.

The police chief said yesterday that Prawut did not tell him whether he wanted to resign from the force and seek early retirement, as speculated.

Prawut is now a senior adviser for traffic and technology affairs, according to Chakthip. He said that according to the police regulations, any officer who fails to show up for work for more than 15 consecutive days would be fired.

The police chief said investigators would decide whether to question Prawut in their probe into a high-profile lese majeste case involving well-known fortune-teller Suriyan Sujaritpolwong, police officer Colonel Prakrom Warunprapa and Suriyan's secretary Jirawong Wattanathewasilp.

Chakthip said he did not know if Prawut had close ties with Prakrom, who reportedly hanged himself while in military detention. He said the two had worked together during the Bike for Mum event in August.

He said police had confiscated assets from Suriyan's relatives, who were not named, that were allegedly earned dishonestly. He said police would determine if Suriyan's family members should be charged.

Pol Gen Prawut has returned from abroad but has not reported to work yet

BANGKOK: -- Former spokesman of the National Police Office Pol Gen Prawut Thavornsiri has returned home from an overseas trip after a weeklong speculation that he may resign from the police force.

The national police chief, Pol Gen Chakthip Chaichinda, said today (Monday) that he had talked with Pol Gen Prawut over the phone but the talk did not touch on the issue of resignation.

However, he said that the former police spokesman had to report to work in 15 days since his return from overseas ahead of schedule otherwise the latter would be regarded as absent from work.

He insisted that there was no evidence to link Pol Gen Prawuit with the extortion gang which cited the Monarchy to enrich themselves.

Of late, several images were posted in the social media showing Pol Gen Prawut in a group picture with fortune-teller Suriyan Sucharitpolwong, aka Mor Yong, and Pol Maj Prakrom Warunprapa who have been charged with lese majeste. Pol Maj Prakrom however has committed suicide.

Pol Gen Prawut and his spokesman’s team have been removed by the national police chief in what the latter described as a normal rotation. However, critics remain suspicious reasoning that the police general was appointed the police spokesman for just about a month.

Pol Gen Chakthip also disclosed that one army colonel was alleged to be connected with the extortion gang but no evidences were available to support their connection.

He said that no new arrest warrant had been issued after the arrest of the latest suspect, Mr Sukkho Tamseri.

The right hand and the left hand, again !

The national police chief, a police general, is convinced an army colonel is involved in the ongoing LM case and evidence is being gathered but the defence minister, an army general, doubts it claiming he would know as he also oversees the police.

Perhaps the police chief should have waited until the evidence had been gathered before he spoke out since ' being convinced ' isn't evidence and perhaps the defence minister should consider he may not have been told anything yet since he's a military man and the suspect's also military.

Anyway the colonel supposedly involved is now fully aware of the police interest in him and has a head start to do whatever he considers appropriate.

This type of advance warning is all too common and without directly connecting it to this case can't always be down to lack of professionalism and the need to talk on behalf of officialdom.

Isn't this guy meant to be new blood, hot shot, young turk, best thing since sliced bread? Seems more like same same foot in mouth as the old lot.

They must first gather all evidences....

ALL OF THEM...

Just to be sure there is no evidences left when they destroy them clap2.gif

If that wasn't the goal, we would have had 200 statements in the last 5 days already..

If that was what was needed to be accused of LM then a number of other high ranking members of the junta should feel very nervous. Then again they can cite article 44 and exonerate themselves.
