Notary public for insurance documents

I have some insurance documents which must be notarized. Are local notaries recognized by American institutions? Where can I find s notary?

The only notary service in Thailand for American documents is from the US Consulate.

Oh, thanks so much for the information. I was sort of afraid of that - that's going to entail a time-consuming and costly trip to Bangkok.

For some documents people have had local stamps (which are not official Notary) accepted but I would not count on that being the case for insurance (where they may look for any reason to deny payment).
