Six brokers have been arrested and sent for questioning at the Phnom Penh Municipal Court after attempting to smuggle five Cambodian women to China for forced marriages.

Anti-human trafficking and juvenile protection police in Phnom Penh were notified through a confidential source that the six people, three women and three men, were living in Beung Salang commune, Toul Kork District. Police officials, led by prosecutor Meas Chanpiseth and head of the anti-human trafficking office Keo Thea, arrested the group on October 29.

According to Mr. Thea, the group was attempting to sell five women to Chinese men to be brides. All of the women came from different provinces. “The six people were known as human traffickers who had been working for 3-4 years and they sent around 30 women to different places in China,” Mr. Thea said.
