Visa Extension for Children

Recommended Posts

VISA ADVICE NEEDED!

I am wondering if any of you can help me. My family and I currently hold US passports and have tourist visas right now and cannot extend again as we already did. They are about to expire on Sunday, November 8. If we stay in the country past our visa stamp date, will our kids have to pay the extension fee of 500 baht/day or just myself and my husband? And do they need to have an active visa eventually since they are 6 and 2 years old and born in the US since they already have tourist visas now? Or can they just stay in Thailand without any visas and just have active ones for myself and my husband? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

This is not by my own choice or lack of planning, but the company I work for really messed up on our visas and paperwork. We were supposed to leave for Laos tonight to do our visa run and upon arrival realized that I don't have a police clearance that is supposed to take 2 weeks that the company I work for failed to do. So now I am just trying to figure out our best option.

The children will not be fined for overstay but their passports will be stamped for overstaying.

You and your husband will be fined 550 Bht/day for overstay.

The children should have their own visas

Why do you believe police clearance is needed?

What visa(s) are you hoping to obtain from Laos?

More information is needed before constructive advice can be offered.

We currently have a tourist visa which we got in the U.S. For 60 day visa and then extended it another 30 days at chaengwattana.

I am a teacher so am going to apply for a non-B visa for myself and a non-O for my husband and kids. The visa company told me they have a new law that just passed a couple of months ago that teachers need to get police clearance in order to apply for a visa.

Are you a degree qualified teacher and where do you hope to work ?

Do you actually have a job offer and the paperwork(supplied by your employer) required for a "B" visa application. ?

Has your employer applied for your Work Permit ?

Why are you relying on a "visa company" ?

Sorry if I appear to be brusque but your situation appears to be unusual.................

I am a degree qualified teacher. I have a job here already in Thailand. When we came into the country, the company misunderstood and thought we were coming here on vacation to see if we liked it first so they told us to just get a tourist visa and then would work it out for us. When we got here they realized their mistake so now we have to rectify it. I have all of my paperwork processed and contract so that we can process my work permit, but we need to leave Thailand to change our tourist visa to a non-O for myself and non-B for my family. I am really frustrated as they have made more than one mistake with our paperwork processing and taken so long to do it and now at the last minute this happens. Any advice?

Rather than going on overstay you should do a border crossing to get another 30 day entry. At 500 baht a day it does not take long for it to be more than a trip to a border and back.

The children will not be fined for an over stay.if they are under the age of 15.

Have you applied for the police clearance certificate yet. Info here:http://www.pcscenter.sb.police.go.th/eng/

Vientiane started enforcing the rule that teachers need a police certificate a few months ago.

Thank you for the link. I haven't applied for the certificate yet. My company will work on the papers today. According to their website it takes 30 business days now to process it since July 2015. Do you know if that's really how long it takes or could it be faster?

Also, do you know if it's possible to do a border run to Cambodia and get a 30 day tourist visa or do we need to fly out of the country? We came into Thailand with a 60 day tourist visa we got in the U.S. And then got another 30 day visa at chaengwattana. So is going to Cambodia ok or do we need to fly out?

I think it is taking longer now because the demand for the police clearance certificates has increased. Not sure if it is really taking 30 days or not.

You can do a border run to Cambodia and get a 30 day visa exempt entry without a problem. You will get 30 days because you are from the US (G7 rule).

And we are using a visa company just to do a visa run to the border to Laos to take us out of the country and process our visas from tourist to non-B and non-O but my employer has supplied all the paperwork. Except failed to know about the qualification for the police clearance.

I submitted a Thai Police Clearance as well when I applied for a Non-B as teacher in

Vientiane last January.

I first went to The Headquarters of Royal Thai Police in BKK to apply for one but must

go back there again a month later to pick it up in person. I was NOT allowed to get it

mailed to me.

So you should go for another 60-day tourist visa to get everything done for your Non-

B if the Thai Police Clearance still takes you 1 month.

I am not sure if this is even possible but am wondering if there was a way to get a multiple entry visa or if the 6-month tourist visa is solidified if this is an option? I am wondering if my family could change our visas to a multiple entry tourist visa until we go back home to in June 2016 for our summer vacation? My job has not started processing my work permit yet, I have only signed the contract for them to process my paperwork to change my tourist visa to a non-B. Am I legally obligated to stay at this company now or is it possible to just get a tourist visa until we go back in June 2016 and possibly look for another job opportunity?

You cannot change to tourist visas You have to go to an embassy or consulate to apply for one. There is no info available for any nearby location to get a METV yet.

I suspect they are concentration on getting the non-b visa before starting the paperwork for the work permit. For teaching you do not need the application approval letter to get the non-b.

You are not obligated to remain with the employer you are dealing with now.

Everything about tourist visa is unknown at the moment. There is a possibility that only single entry visa will be available.

I will hopefully go to the Police center today if my company gets all the necessary documents done and will hopefully have a date of when to pick it up then we can plan accordingly.

All I needed to apply for a Thai Police Clearance were my passport and a letter

that must be addressed to The Headquarters of Royal Thai Police written by

your school with your personal date on it plus 100B as a fee. I didn't need a

photo but got all my fingerprints taken.

I actually didn't take the letter with me but I had the police officer talk to the

secretary of my school about it, who then faxed it to the bookstore in The

Headquarters no problem.

I got all the paperwork done with my school without even using an agency.

So looks like my family and I will be doing a visa run to Cambodia. Does anyone have experience doing the run themselves instead of using a company? We have our own car but if anyone could tell me the logistics of how this works and where to go and what forms we would need to fill out and if they have it at the border to fill out or if we can print it online before we go. We live in Bangna area and looking for the best way to get to the nearest Cambodian border with the least hassle.
