Difference between receipt en invoice

Featured Replies

Can anyone explain me the difference (in Thailand) between a receipt and invoice? Thanks clap2.gif

Not sure if its different in Thailand but an invoice is a request for money and a receipt is confirmation of payment...

I think ?

Thailand is odd. When a customer pays their invoice (Business customers), they also ask for a receipt. Another piece of paper confirming you received their payment.

If you wanted the invoice, say, in a restaurant, you would ask for the "bin," or "check bin."

Once you've paid, you can get the receipt, which would be the "bai set," which translates to "document finish."

Its also advisable to keep your receipts, especially when paying

by cash and at 7-11's, a number of times over the years,we have

had the Electricity and Water companies saying an invoice had not

been paid, when it had,we had receipts to show account was in fact

paid.

if you pay cash for anything always insist on a receipt at the time of payment. I have noticed for example when checking into a hotel and when you don't use your credit card the staff sometimes look bewildered when you ask for a receipt and quite often will say we will give it to you later.blink.png

At which point I say no I want it now! Otherwise you don't get the payment now either.tongue.png

The receipt is proof of payment and it's no good arguing with someone later on I already paid such and such a person if they have gone off duty.

whistling.gif Here in Thailand as far as I can see they have there own terminology.

For example here where I live each month I am given an "invoice" showing they want me to pay my monthly rent for my apartment for the past month.

Then when I pay them they stamp that "invoice" as paid, and they also give me a "receipt" for that payment to show they received the money from me.

At least that how it is done here.

As mentioned, an invoice is a request for payment. A receipt is proof that you have paid.

In Thailand, however, you can also get a Tax Invoice/Receipt which is one document.

thanks guys for the explanation clears the sky a bit :)

Thailand is odd. When a customer pays their invoice (Business customers), they also ask for a receipt. Another piece of paper confirming you received their payment.

Its mainly due to the tax receipt.

The invoice is what the person paid. The receipt is what the person uses to claim back from the employer... Expect the former to be lower than the later if not presented together...
