October 4, 200619 yr Hello, We're living in London and we'd like to buy a handheld electronic dictionary/translator for my wife to use to improve her English. I wonder if anybody who either currently uses or has experience of them could recommend a model? A human speech function would be useful. In an ideal world we'd be able to try some out in a shop and it would also be able to locate verbs with different endings, i.e. 'goes'. But we don't live in an ideal world, do we! Thanks C&F
October 5, 200619 yr hi ! what you are probaly looking for is the talking dict , you can find them at www.talkingdict.com i have one myself but the wife plays games on it mostly. You can get them everywhere in thailand and there are some websites that sell them in the uk or can be shipped to the uk, models vary from 50 pound up and you can get video talk spoken dicts etc. also translates english - thai or thai - eng . Another option would be to send her to your local college which will probaly do english language for foriegners and usually costs nothing, plus she will need the certificates if she ever decides to go for citizenship!!
