BANGKOK: -- Pornchai Saosri, believed to be the tallest man in the world at 269 centimeters tall, has sadly passed away at the age of 26.

His family confirmed he died at his home in Surin province around 10am on Monday, after years of suffering from various illnesses related to his height, including high blood pressure.

Pornchai’s parents and their 15-year-old granddaughter were taking care of the gentle giant after he became bedridden and unable to stand up, the Bangkok Post reported.

Very sorry to hear this RIP

RIP gentle giant

RIP sad.png

yes , remember this story a couple of months back ............. they showed a picture of him laying on the bed, it said he couldn't eat properly if I remember & couldn't walk correctly.

sad ....... 26 is very short. RIP

RIP big man with a big heart. best wishes to his Family.

Sad that this man has died.....but check this list and tell me if you see anyone from Thailand on it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tallest_people

at 2.69 mtrs this man would be the 2nd tallest person who has ever lived.

Also if you follow the other link on the report you read that he was measured sitting down and his true height is a lot less than claimed.

There is a Ukrainian man who refuses to be measured by the Guinness Book of Records that is thought to be the tallest man alive at 2.57, 8 foot 5" but the actual title goes to Sultan Kosen of Turkey at 2.51 mtrs...8 foot 3 in real money.

Another sad fact is that a lot of people who suffer from this height disorder die young.

Since nearly every press story in LoS contains "poor statistics" (TAT's 30 + million tourist stampeding over here in the very near future for example)

I doubt the details in this story also..

Did the Turk Sultan Kösen passed away already? I did not know that.

269cm is 8 foot 10 inches.

Robert Wadlow was 272cm.

Nice fella. Sorry to hear he has passed away.

RIP,

What a shame in the Guinness World Records book he is not mentioned (quick Google search I did)

Sad story!

Being almost 9 feet tall, and at least a 4 foot arm reach, he could touch a roof 13 feet tall.

It is really too bad he couldn't walk or run and lived a normal long life. A Basketball Hoop is only 10 feet off the ground so he could Slam Dunk the ball into the hoop without even jumping. By holding the ball over his head nobody could reach it either. They just needed to pass him the ball at the net and it would be all over every time.

Perhaps you did not look far enough? On the same list:

Thailand 269 cm 8 ft 10 in Pornchai Sawsri Claimed to measure 269 cm (8'10") at age 26 in September 2015.[75] He was measured at 257 cm (8'5") by Thai authorities for his ID card renewal in October 2013.[76] 1990?–

Tall guy but life too short , I bet he was a nice guy too.

I just checked and there is someone from Thailand on it, this man, not sure why you couldn't have done that yourself. LOL

As for him being previously measured at some 12cm shorter, that was two years ago and he did not stop growing.

RIP Dear Man.

Unfortunately, much more has "died" here as well.

its a Shame that the worlds tallest people often dont live so long.

I just checked the wikipedia list of Tallest Men.

most of them all dying around 25 to 35 years old.

a few make it to 55.

sorry for his loss

I went to visit him last month and gave him some money towards the hospital bed he wanted. He seemed to have pneumonia and had just gotten out of the hospital. He had surgery a few years ago on his pituitary gland and then grew a few more cm after that. He was in pain but he was still talkative and in a good mood. He had a bag of medicine for each day stapled to a big calendar, he had a lot of medical expenses and came from a very poor family.

"believed to be the tallest man in the world at 269 centimeters tall" believed in Thailand. Not necessarily connected to the rest of the world.

Sad at 26 he had to go away like this. RIP

RIP to this very tall man. My condolences to his family and friends as well.

I still remember seeing a picture when I was young, of the Siamese twins from

Thailand, or at that time Siam. It was my first time that I looked up where

Thailand was at in the world. For those who are quick to come out with stats

and the like, well goodie for you. I really do not care if there may be or have

been as tall or taller men in the world, it is very sad that most of them do not

have long lives.

Geezer

Touching to hear that the family got some help towards the end after what must have been a long hard haul.

I'm a bit surprised though that his case wasn't publicised long ago. Pornchai may not have wanted to become a sideshow, but there would have been plenty of well-meaning interest. I remember seeing George Gracie at the fair when I was a kid. He made a nice living out of it.

georgegracie%20(1).jpg

Probably the main reason he wasn't in the Guiness book of world records is that I'm certain they charge at least $500.

His family is poor, he lived in a small house with only two rooms. He spent all his time on a metal bed with a thin mattress pad and wanted but couldn't even afford an electrically adjustable hospital bed. His medical expenses were high and more of a priority than being in a record book.
