Photo: Chatpon JareonwechPHUKET: -- Public works officials put in a 12-hour shift last Thursday (Nov 5) to quickly repair a wastewater-treatment plant that was allowing black, untreated wastewater to flow onto Kata Beach.The Public Works Division at Karon Municipality were notified of the black water spilling onto the beach at 2pm, explained engineer Chatpon Jareonwech.“By 3pm, we were on-site and had shut down the plant to make emergency repairs,” Mr Chatpon told The Phuket News.Although the pumps were still working, the filtration system was not removing sediment and other contaminants from the water, he explained“Plus, it had been raining heavily.
