Riverside road in Chai Nat sinks after heavy rain

CHAI NAT: -- Heavy rain that hit parts of Chai Nat province on Monday night caused the bank of the Noy river to sink, damaging a riverside road and pulling down many houses.

The road along the Mae Nam Noy or Noy river in Chai Nat’s Sankhaburi district was damaged by the rain, causing the eight parts of the river bank to sink.

Hardest hit were villages near Phu Ngam temple where parts of the road slid into the Noy river, leaving behind a cut across the road at length of 30 metres, width of 7 metres and depth of 5 metres.

The incident made it impassable to vehicles.

Local officials have to close the road to prevent further damages and injuries.

They were inspecting the areas for emergency repairs and assistances.

Too dry and the roads collapse. "Not enough water in the river"

Too wet and roads collapse. "Too much water."

Is their a "Goldilocks" point, which is ideal for Thai road construction? and if so what is it?

Couldn't possibly have anything to do with skimming and not building the road properly, surely !

Not at all. if you look at the photo you can clearly see that the 1cm of tar seal on a nice soft foundation of clay should be more than strong enough facepalm.gif

seems the lack of sub structure /road base etc is finally showing through. When will they learn that simply putting bitumen over rolled red dirt isnt good enough, time to start taking all the ones running the road tenders to the cleaners and then actually using the alotted money to build them properly but it will never happen, too many would lose their extra benefits. Everyone can see by the picture that there is no sub foundations, no strengthening at the roadside to cope with excess water etc, builders to busy pocketing the extra money they saved by not doing it.

The river did what rivers always do by taking the course of least resistance. Most civil engineers know that. Silly to build roads and houses so close to a river really.

Thai engineering at it's best,,,Cheap & Nasty,,,& no Idea what they are doing,,,
