No Wp With Elite Card Visa

Featured Replies

Having queried the Thailand-Elite sales person as to whether I would be able to get a WP if I had an Elite Card, the reply was:

'Regarding the Elite visa, you cannot get the work permit with Elite visa. Elite visa entitle you to stay in Thailand only (Not for working purpose). '

They went on to say that if I wanted to get a WP, then I should also get a B or O visa, (depending upon my personal circumstances).

So, it seems to be that if you are an entrepreneur under 50 years old, and want a 'hassle-free' visa, and want to do business in Thailand, then you are going to meet a lot of hurdles!!

In comparison, my initial enquiries with the Singapore authorities re getting a long-term visa and establishing a small, IT business in Singapore, have been very favourably received. They see no problem for me to remain in Phuket (with my family), but establish an IT business in Singapore.

What a difference in attitude :o

Although this was indeed how the Elite Card was initially set up, some cardholders have commented that the system was subsequently changed to allow them to apply for a work permit. Somebody obviously has their story wrong, not-so-obvious is which party is correct. :o

Surprised at this as the website states that they can help putting a WP on top of the Special Visa. I also thought that one of their target groups was people coming in to start businesses; it was certainly my idea too before I decided to live a life of leisure instead.

Regarding dealing with Singapore, I only have good things to say about their government's attitude to entrepreneurialism. My former company (a FTSE100 member) wanted to open a subsidiary and the choice of the subsidiary's Asian HQ was between Singapore and HK. The Monetary Authority in HK (it was a financial company) had the attitude that "We're part of China so you set up here.", whilst the MAS aggressively courted us and ended up offering various generous financial incentives to base ourselves there instead. No guesses which centre we chose. They truly understand the value of FDI.

Yes, I found the reply from Thailand-Elte re WPs rather strange. If I ask the same question again, then maybe I'll get a different answer!

How can you commit to spending 1 million baht when their replies conflict with real-life feedback from members?!

That alone should tell you something but it doesn't seem to be anything that people with an interest in the Card want to hear.

Well, i have a strong interest in acquiring this card and 5-year visa. The sales people respond quickly, but I seem to get conflicting information.

Simon

Make sure you get the info in writing before you commit your money. :o
